I want to know what the "Z-max technology" is, they insist you don't use it on anything but zombies.

I was seriously disappointed in that video! The guy was doing triple taps to the chest before going to the head...on every Zombie! What a serious waste of ammo!
OMG only 185gr bullets loaded in the .45 autos!?!? Plus all of the other bullet weights are light for caliber! I'm sorry but Hornady has totally dropped the ball here! I don't even shoot paper with light bullets so you can bet that when SHTF I am reaching for the largest hunks of lead that I can send downrange...and apparently they won't be these new sissified Zombie loadings!
ETA...when did sissified make it into the dictionary!? lol what is this world coming to!?!?

Sorry, at $1 per round and up I'm not interested. First, that's too expensive for plinking (or for the "collector value") and second, it's not a good idea at all. I'm waiting for the mall ninja who thinks these are toy rounds and accidentally offs one of his buddies.
Wait until the media gets ahold of this. These will be pulled from the market faster than Jarts and Clackers.

The wife still has her jarts, still in the box. And somewhere, I still have a set of clackers. (Probably in with my yo-yo's)

Isn't this more of a defensive load? From the looks of it, I'd guess that it's just their "Critical Defense" bullet with a green polymer tip instead of a red one.
In which case, $1 or more per round wouldn't be out of the question.

I think that's exactly what it is, the Critical Defense with a green tip.

According to Hornady's ballistic chart, the 9mm 115 grain Critical Defense round and the 115 grain Z-Max round have the exact same ballistics, although they have different product numbers. I would go with the opinion that the only difference is the color of the plug.

Too bad you can't use Z-max ammo for self defense, unless it's against a zombie.

Based on the handgun bullet weights listed, that is my guess.

i dunno,
if you have to actually kill an errant brain eater, an over zealous prosecuting attorney might point out that it was pre meditated, since you bought ammo specially marked for your intended victim.

I'm thinking that since there are those who adamantly take the stance that we shouldn't carry hand loads because of the legal implications, using "Zombie Loads" for SD would be a prosecuter's wet dream.

I'll buy some. I like the box graphics. I also like the big blurb about it not being a toy, that it is live rounds.
But yeah, all they did was change the color of the tips. I haven't gotten any yet, but I think the zombie killer rounds green tip may actually glow in the dark.
They may not have done thorough ballistic testing after changing the plastic, so the disclaimer for zombies only may simply cover them if for some reason the different plastic made the things fail miserably in tissue.

I will buy them for the collector purchase.

The most common injury among me and my friends was bruised and broken wrist bones. Well, we all conked ourselves in the head at first but we learned to hold them wa-ay far at arm's length.

I saw he Zombie Max video on U-Tube. The disclaimer (at the end) was puzzeling. At first blush, I dismissed this as corporate humor. However, Hornady is a serious company and their reputation is their bread & butter. On reflection, I believe this to be a political message. Apocalyptic ammunition?

Funny this post came up cause I bought some today. Why? For the heck of it I guess. Definately didn't need any more ammo.
And it is the same as Critical Defense. Only with a green tip. The box gives specific instructions on how to use it.
Brilliant marketing. The gun shop where I bought say their selling like crazy.

Darn...they don't have it in 38 or 357. It would look cool alternating the regular critical defense and these green ones.

Especially since the green ones glow in the dark. How sweet would that look to have six or eight glowing holes in the cylinder?

Nope! Where did you get that from? I saw gatorfarmer say above..."but I think the zombie killer rounds green tip may actually glow in the dark"...but they actually do not.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the brass case. Critical Defense has a nickel plated case.

Along with the bullet weights all being light for the caliber I'm also disappointed with the brass cases. At about $1.00 a round they should be nickel plated cases just like most of the law enforcement stuff. Since we are most likely going to be waiting a very, very long time before we are able to use this ammo on it's intended target I think they should be nickel plated and sealed at the primers and case mouths!

IMO it's pure marketing genius on Hornaday's part. Normally I'm not a sucker for this type of gimmik but have to admit that if I saw some in 40 S&W and 45ACP on a store shelf I'd get a box of each. BTW, it really is a shame they don't glow in the dark, that would look totally cool loaded in my 625.

I expect "20/20" and Geraldo Rivera to do investigative reports any day now on this "Zombie Killer" ammunition. The media will be clamoring for "Zombie Control Squads", probably within the Department of Homeland Security, and restrictions on such ammunition for "law enforcement only" sales. It shouldn't take more than a year or two to hire and train swat team style Zombie Squads, even with all the sensitivity training requirements (understanding the social issues and special needs of Zombies, etc) and special courses on the civil rights of Zombies (as a minority population Zombies have been subjected to quite a bit of prejudice over recent years).
Isn't the Zombie Apocalypse just a social tradition of this small minority population? Shouldn't we have more respect for the Zombie culture? Shouldn't we be more concerned with diversity, maybe work on some programs to make Zombies feel more appreciated and loved? Maybe a new affirmative action plan is the best way of dealing with these issues.
The average citizen should have no access to such potentially destructive ammunition anyway. No legitimate sporting purpose at all.
BATFE is probably working on special emergency regulations already, monitoring sales and investigating purchasers to make sure that none are involved in anti-Zombie hate groups or militias.
Congress will probably convene special hearings and consider laws to deal with this devastating new technology. Probably require a few fact-finding trips to exotic locations around the world (all with 5-star hotels and the best golf courses, of course) so our congress critters can study all the pertinent information on how other civilized nations are dealing with Zombies. Nobody seems to lose more facts than congressmen, but they sure can find the time to go looking for missing facts.

I got some of this as a gag gift for me dad. I think this was a good move by hornady. Zero effort in design but results in an interesting product. It doesn't really fill a need in the market place other than it is cool.

I have wondered about that myself, ever since I first heard of them. The part about 'toy rounds' I mean. When I first read about them that was my thought- must be some kinda practice gimmick.
