Welcome to the United States, Wisconsin!!
Today is the day Wisconsinites can apply for their concealed carry permit!
As of 12:01 am the Department of Justice website has had a link for the form that needs to be filled out and sent in along with proof of training and $50.
The permit is good for 5 years.
I had mine hand delivered to the post office at 8:30am because that's when they opened. The permits are first in / first out, so I want to be in right away.
Out of state permit holders can carry beginning today. I'm not very pleased that residents can't carry using an out of state permit, but what can I do about it?
I have seen plenty of 'No Firearms' signs posted so I will be purchasing some of the business cards that explain my feelings about not being able to carry a sidearm where I wish, hopefully to convince business owners that we permitted folks are the good guys here....

Congratulations!
Wisconsin joins Nevada on my "What's your problem?" list.
Oklahoma recognizes Wisconsin and meets all the stated requirements for reciprocal, but Wisconsin does not recognize OK!
The last time I went through this issue with another state's bumbling public servants, the answer was, "Oklahoma has to formally request recognition from us." Is that Wisconsin's problem?
(Nevada won't even answer the question).

We know what happened in IL, especially Chicago, and then there's Washington DC. Yeh, they 'allow' permits', but you have to apply during the full moon on a summer solstice when the bats are mating.....If anyone's interested "Guns and Patriots" has a contiuing article about a lady trying to get a permit in DC-
- HUMAN EVENTS
Point is re: WI, if or when the legislature turns back to a - shall we say- less open-minded legislature, I can imagine the obstacles they'll put in the way. So the OP is right to get out there and do it quick, IMHO.

Must be a legal issue. I mean states requesting from states.
Is Michigan on your list? I called and they honor a lot of states, but you can't carry in Michigan unless you have a Michigan CCW. You can't get a Michigan CCW unless you live in Michigan. How does that work?

The way the law reads, it is a class B forfeiture to carry a concealed weapon on someone's property after being notified that the owner does not want you to do so. The notice can be verbal or in the form of a sign measuring no less than 5 x 7 inches.
A class B forfeiture is a $200 fine.

How that works is you get a CHL from YOUR home state, and then you can carry in MI. Just like I legally carry in MI with MY home state (OK) CHL.
It also illustrates the fallacy of calling on the phone and asking for verbal legal advice.
Quote:
Non-residents of Michigan wishing to carry a concealed pistol in Michigan:
If you are a non-resident of Michigan with a valid concealed pistol permit from your home state, Michigan will recognize your permit. However, you must carry in conformance with any and all restrictions appearing on the permit. You are subject to Michigan's concealed pistol law including but not limited to restrictions on where a concealed pistol may be carried.

Had the form printed out at 12:30am on 11/1 but had a bunch of stuff to do, so it didn't get mailed out til today. So I'll probably get it on the 44th day.

I held off sending my app. in until I could get a postal money
order. Figured that it wouldn't leave the post office any sooner anyway,
and no worries about waiting for check to clear.
As far as requirements were concerned, I had three ways to go;
I sent all three in with the form. Been waiting for this day ever
since I got crippled up.
Any Wisconsin-ites that have applied, please send an e-mail to your state rep.s and let them know you appreciate their efforts. It'll
brighten up their day to hear from you! TACC1

I had 2 ways, hunter safety and LE academy training. I sent in the academy paperwork with 50-60 hrs training. Saved me from having to pay to reprint my hunter safety stuff from back in the mid 80's.

Yes I know that, I talked to the attorney general. Problem is, Wisconsin had no permit. So I could be permitted in every state in the country, but without a permit from your HOME state, you can't carry in Michigan. Even now, I can't carry in Michigan until my WI permits comes in.
I thought they would make an exception for WI and IL because they didn't have permits, but no go....

CO, FL, MI, NH, SC, and ME ONLY honor a permit from your home state, except FL, NH, and ME will sell you one of theirs by mail before you visit, if you wish.
Each state has its own gun laws and NONE of them care how you do it back home, so you have to follow the law for the state you visit, and some of the laws are really screwy. Especially, watch out for statutory off-limits and signage rules.
Example: OK has NO signage requirements, so you just have to know where not to carry your gun and the possible penalties, like no signs on bars but a felony to carry inside.

thanks that explains it.....Texas has a sign law that is very specific and must be in both English and Spanish it is called a 30.06 sign......easy to remember....Florida on the other hand.......You'd have to be told to leave the property.......no gun signs are for gun haters.

dont hold your breath
in past research MN honored an NE permit .. that is no longer the case.
In fact it would appear MN's current admin seem fairly well set on keeping guns out

I've just had the FL non-res, ever since Doyle vetoed the last CCW bill. I go to the U.P. & out West more than MN anyway, just wanted to see them honor WI.

NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE THE DAY!!
Never thought I'd see the day when WI would allow CCW. Times
have radically changed in regards to a need for self-defense. Back
in High School, kids could travel anywhere in Madison, in any
neighborhood, on foot, by bus, hitchhike, bicycle, etc. It's been quite a while since I've travelled to any part of Madison, and don't plan on
going there any time soon, either. Muggings were virtually unheard of
back in the sixty's. Not rare now. I hope for the sake of the residents,
that things will be better for them now. TACC1
PS: WI residents, tell your rep.s in state government that they've
done well. They've got a lot on their plates and could use some
moral support.

That is fast, if you mailed on the 1st & it's back already. I see some in the DOJ are 'working through the weekend' to process applications. There should be a good wave of them in the mail this week.

I hate even passing through old M town.
I have a 9MM FMJ on one of my guitars to adorn its pickup switch.
one of those chance in a million deals I saw that golden BB bouncing off cars trucks and concrete before it came to rest under my windshield wiper.

None here either, but I assume mine and my wifes arrived in the avalanche of them, since ours went out 11/2. I figure at least a couple weeks.

No, what they did is drop the 4hr training mandate. You still have to have training, it just doesn't have to be a 4 hr minimum now.

The clerk at the LGS said his check cleared his bank yesterday, so he thinks his permit will come soon.
I checked my bank and my check cleared yesterday also. That means they opened my application envelope anyway!
I'm hopeful I'll see my permit today. If WI would let residents carry with an out-of-state license I wouldn't be so dang worried about when it comes....
By the way, it's snowing to beat the band here, high winds, thunder and snow flakes as big as cotton balls...

You dirty dog...
When I go out to eat, I always get the smallest steak.
When they bring the soup, my bowl is always half full while everyone else's is overflowing.
On an airplane when we all see that really fat chick coming down the isle.... Don't worry, she always sits by me.
So I kind of figured my permit would be the last one out....
Hope springs eternal! Maybe today... Maybe today.
