Default What are you carrying your J Frames in?

I'm about to get my CCW (called CHP here) and will probably start with my Smith 642. I have a couple of pocket holsters but will want one for the belt too. Could be inside or outside I guess.

What are you guys using?

I carry my 642 in a Wraith IWB holster by Seth's Gun Leather. I had mine special-ordered with a lower ride height so the cylinder is more in line with the belt. Excellent quality, very comfortable, secure but quick. Probably about as close to perfection as I'm likely to find in an IWB holster.

I also just ordered a Quick Clip IWB holster from Side Guard Holsters. I wanted something that was quick on/off but still carried the cylinder in line with the belt. Their holsters are very good quality and reasonably priced.

I believe they're both quoting 2-3 month delivery times.

Speed Safety spring holster worn cross draw or a pocket holster. My Model 37 backs up my Glock 22 at work and my 3 inch Model 13-3 or tapered 4 inch Model 10-5 off duty.

I must have tried dozens of holsters over the years.

Even the nylon ones, which I learned to hate with a passion after they destroyed some of shirts by abrasion.

These are the best I have found. Good old Don Hume Model 715 IWB.

Perfect fit, comfortable and holds it's shape for reholstering.
Price is great too..under $30.

Just got one for my SW9VE too and it fits like a glove.

I use a Simply Rugged Silver Dollar Pancake holster for OWB and a Side Guard Tuck clip holster for IWB. I like both of them a lot.

Pocket - Uncle Mike's pocket holster

Belt holster - my soon-to-be-delivered Lobo Enhanced Pancake Holster with 0 cant

Appendix IWB - clipdraw (universal model - not the one made for the J Frame). I found the universal model holds the J more firmly in place without side to side movement. Pic:

Me, a 442 OWB in a Blackhawk Speed Classic. The wife, a 642 in either a Remora worn IWB or a PistolWare PT2; depends on the wardrobe for the day.

Default Options and chang

Depending on what I wear and how long a day things can vary.
R9 Bianchi shoulder holster. E bay has some for the J frame. Avoid the elastic on old holsters of different makes. Desantis 01 belt holster and pocket holster.
If it is a long day I may switch from belt or shoulder holster to a pocket carry. Have a bag or something available to change out in a rest room. Twenty hours is a long time for any method of carry. I also have a case available for travel where my CCl is not honored.
The J is a 640 Tyler grip adapter and Grasshorn Stags, another 2 1/2 " K sometimes teams up with it in a Simply Rugged custom. Also known as the new York reload.
Having a pair gives more options.

I've used a number of different brands of Pocket Holsters and prefer the Mika's.

Square or Round Cut all depends on the pocket style I'm dealing with.

Because I have a wonky back I stay away from Inside the Waistband (IWB) holsters when it comes to revolvers.

Below is what works good for me.

For back-up purposes (BUG) I use a Glaco Ankle Glove.

I have a few nice leather pocket holsters but they add way more bulk than nylon.

I agree, that's why I prefer the Mika's.

Even with the "thread band" on the exterior, the vlnyl Robert uses for the outside layer & the cloth used on the interior,
the Mika PH still comes in pretty thin, especially when compared to the Nemesis or Uncle Mike's.

I find that the Remora IWB holster I use for my 340 M&P is outstanding for comfort, concealability, and stays put.

Drawback= reholstering is tricky....and drawing with a full "combat" grip takes some practice...

Overall, an effective method of carry for a light revolver.

Lately I've been using an Uncle Mike's #3 pocket holster or the old standby Mika pocket holster. For the belt, the Galco Concealable works well. For AIWB, I use a single clip job I bought on ebay.

Nice set up. Went ahead and ordered a "regular" pancake holster from Ray at Lobo this morning. 4-5 weeks wait time but I think it will be worth it. Will match the one he made for my 60 3".

To quote a certain politician's recent retraction, I mis-spoke. It's a Lobo No. 1 pancake . . . and I still love it.

Some people are so picky about little details, next thing you'll be telling me is that's not a 642 pictured in the holster.

Looks like a lot of good options. I've discovered carrying my 60-7 in my okie holster (back jeans pocket) is pulling the pocket seams out at the corners. I'm thinking it's time to upgrade to something a little better suited to actually carrying a gun.

Desantis super fly pocket holster. Its great. very easy to draw and it never comes out with the gun.

J-frames are for the pocket or for the ankle in my mind.

A 642-1 in a plain old Number 3 Uncle Mike's pocket holster. I've now discovered carrying my Interarms PPK in a Blackhawk! Number 2 pocket holster that is printed with "U.S.A." on the tag. The Uncle Mike's was made in Vietnam. Guess which one may hit the garbage before too long.

That looks like a good option. I bought one of those holsters for a snub Model 66 a few years ago and it didn't fit worth a flip (way too tight).
