Understanding what you're up against, and I'm thinking maybe your wife isn't really into guns in addition to being injured, it's not a bad choice.
To me, however, a pump shotgun would be better because I could keep 4 or 5 rounds in the magazine with an empty chamber. Mossberg makes a pump 410.
I wouldn't be comfortable loading the hammerless Coach gun you're looking at and leaving it unattended. I don't have to worry about kids but I'd still be uncomfortable.
Interestingly, although there is always a loaded handgun in our home at my wife's disposal, during Rattlesnake season (May thru Oct) I leave an unloaded single shot 410 in a certain corner of the house. I have a buttstock cartridge carrier on it with 6 rounds of #7 1/2 shot in case a rattler shows up while I'm away. My wife can operate it easily and understands what its for --- snakes. The handgun is for other varmints.
GUESS I WASTED MY TIME BUT I'LL LEAVE THIS UP ANYWAY.

Sorry!
I discussed it with my wife, and she said NO WAY was she interested in a shotgun. She is happy with her M&P9c, and she said if I want a shotgun for me, get the 12 and be happy with it.
I just bought a M&P Shield, and I have a feeling she is going to be even happier with it than her M&P9c...so, I will probably be looking for a second Shield rather than a shotgun.
Thanks for your reply, though...I should have discussed it with the "Boss" first!

That's for darn sure...
We will have been married 34 years this coming June...so, you'd think I would have learned that by now.
