My wife and I have never been to a gambling casino but would like to go. Since Texas has no casinos, we are planning a trip to the Winstar Casino just across the Texas Oklahoma border. I know that Oklahoma is both a concealed and open carry state and that Oklahoma honors the Texas CHL.

I am unfamiliar with Oklahoma law so my question, does Oklahoma allow concealed carry in a casino? I have tried researching online but get different interpretations of the law. I thought I would ask you folks form Oklahoma who have first hand knowledge.

Thanks in advance,
Kel

No.
OK law, with thanks to the OK Shooters Assn. Note #6:

"TITLE 21 § 1277. Unlawful carry in certain places
UNLAWFUL CARRY IN CERTAIN PLACES
A. It shall be unlawful for any person in possession of a valid concealed handgun license issued pursuant to the provisions of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act to carry any concealed handgun into any of the following places:
1. Any structure, building, or office space which is owned or leased by a city, town, county, state, or federal governmental authority for the purpose of conducting business with the public;
2. Any meeting of any city, town, county, state or federal officials, school board members, legislative members, or any other elected or appointed officials;
3. Any prison, jail, detention facility or any facility used to process, hold, or house arrested persons, prisoners or persons alleged delinquent or adjudicated delinquent;
4. Any elementary or secondary school, or technology center school property;
5. Any sports arena during a professional sporting event;
6. Any place where pari-mutuel wagering is authorized by law; and
7. Any other place specifically prohibited by law."

The other issue is that if the casino is on an Indian reservation, tribal law is enforced. I personally don't know of any tribe in the US that allows concealed carry.

Come to Las Vegas. Get a Nevada (non-resident) permit. Carry everywhere (almost) Casinos bars ,etc.

GerSan69,

If you are basing your response to the OPs question on A (6) of the statute, 6. "Any place where pari-mutuel wagering is authorized by law;" I would recommend the OP contact the OK Gaming Commission and Attorney Generals' offices for clarification since all gambling is not "Pari-mutuel wagering", just that where the outcome is based on a competition of some sort such as horse & dog races, sports, etc.

I was in an Indian casino in UP, and they made me take my pocket knife to the car. Clip type you could see, sticking out of my pocket. They were cool about it. They also made a young guy pull up his pants.

Hi Alk, I was just repeating what the OK Shooters Assn wrote in response to the same question on their forum. Figured if anyone would know, it'd be them. :)

A legal defens e firm I belong too put out a memo on this topic. One a casino is not a pari mutual wagering place although they may have pari mutual wagering on premises. The big kicker according to the memo we received is this. Most casinos outside of Vegas/Atlantic City are on Indian owned Property. Native American Tribes are considered Soverign Nations. As such they have the right to make their own laws. Many Tribes do not permit guns on Indian or Tribal Property. If I am not mistaen, the Casino mentioned in the opening post is Tribal Property. It is best to check with the governing body of the Tribe if that is the case.

I live in AZ so this may not be relevant. The rez is a sovereign nation and your permit does not have to be recognized there. Most roads, state, county etc. are not under the tribes jurisdiction, but their roads are. There is no reciprocity from any tribes I know of. When I go to the casinos I leave the firearms in the vehicle. Here they have the power to confiscate your guns on the rez and you have to fight to get them back
