NOW the wife is convinced to carry....
She has put up with me carrying, and she has gone shooting a few times. She used to hunt deer with me, but seeing those cute little dead animals was too much for her. She didn't want to carry a gun, even in her car, just in case something happened.
Last night something happened.
She was coming home with my son (11) after a ball game. It was late, 10:00pm, and dark.
A car zoomed up behind her and rode her tail. Then it came along side her on a hill, beeping its horn, then went behind her again. The car again went beside her on a corner and swerved at her a couple times. She was scared and didn't know what to do.
She drove straight and avoided eye contact as she dialed 911. The car swerved at her again then got behind her. She turned onto our road and the car didn't follow.
She came home and was worried sick of course, but she realized she was defenseless if that car would have crashed into her and ran her off the road.
Today she fills out a police report and we will put a gun in her car for emergencies.

Wow, it's good to hear they weren't physically harmed.

That's a powerful incentive. I'm sorry she had to get the message that way, but glad she got it.

1. Put a gun on her, not the car.
2. Check the tail/brake lights on her car.

My wife's attitude about self defense changed when she became a mother and decided that she would do whatever was necessary to protect our children and that included taking the life of another human being if required.
The children are now in their late 20's, NRA Life Members, and hold their own CFL's.

My niece is a cute girl that has been driving like most people, since she was 16. That family lives in rural Kentucky, and she often drives alone, late at night. Her father put a SP101 in her glove box (she already knew how to use it), the day she started driving. Is that legal? Did the Sheriff know? (yes, it was his idea to put the gun in the car.) She's 32, still cute and still armed. She has a CCW permit now, and has talked many of her female college classmates into getting CCW permits also. Ivan

Remind her that one the greatest weapons at your disposal while behind the wheel of a car is usually the car it self.

Thanks for the replies, and yes we did a complete light check and all lights on her car are working fine.
We did discuss the use of the car as a defensive weapon. I always point out how cops on reality shows will spin a car by bumping the rear. You can see it happen on race tracks all the time too. I try to impress on her that a car on her rear quarter is a very dangerous thing, and she can always hit the brakes and turn to avoid having a car on her rear quarter.
And never stop if the car stops in front of her. Always leave an out. You can drive just fine in a hay field or grassy ditch. Always keep going until you get to where a lot of people are.
She won't carry on herself yet, so a gun in the car is the next best thing.
I have considered putting one in my daughter's car, but it is illegal, and if it were ever found that would really be bad for her. Perhaps bad enough that she could never get a permit to carry.
