Thoughts on Mexican Carry

I did this this too when starting out, back in 01. Mexican carried a Berretta 92 in the small of back. 2nd dumbest thing I did firearm related (never got hurt). Live and learn. No way Jose would I do it now

I frequently do so with semi auto pistols, but not revolvers. I have been carrying on of my Shields this way since 7:00 a.m. today. The method works fine for me when sitting around the house or car. I also carry like this when walking in the local park.

I don't carry Mexican style and I don't shave in the shower with my straight razor, and for the same reason.

Best,
Rick

With a snubby, I'd think there'd be a chance of the gun slippin' down a pants leg.

I occasionally carry a j-frame with Pacmayr Compacs tucked in my belt behind the hip. The belt rides in between the grips and the cylinder and it's actually quite comfortable.

^^ I have model 38 with clipdraw that I occasionally have need for, it's really concealed just behind my hip. I've been searched (cursorily) more than once and it was missed. The clip is over the waistband but behind the belt.

I love the way the term originated. Mexicans lost their right to own and carry firearms so as a result had to get rid of the big leather holsters that gave them away. They tucked their guns into their pants for concealment in cheerful disobedience to the Federales. I think I'll Mexican carry my 640 every May 5th in remembrance. Viva Mexico

A pistol in the waist of your pants will cause your pants to sag. What do you do when your pants sag? Continually pull the waistband back into position.....telling the observant Federale that you are packing. It's even more distinct than "printing."

Yep - I carry a J Frame with the Clipdraw all the time. Love it. I would not carry a Glock like that, but revo - no problem.

No, I don't do it. It's dangerous. There are much safer ways to get a gun to my car-range bag, carry it in a holster, etc. My loaded guns are holstered and carried that way in a pocket or IWB. Yiogo

I have done it and not to say I won't again at some point but, a holster makes me feel much more comfortable. This way I know that the only way my gun is going to fall off is if my belt falls off.

First I'd strongly recommend a real holster. a paddle type or clip on would be easy enough. there is a gangbanger way of making a loop type rig from a bandana. the gangbangers don't wanna get caught with a gun or holster. who knows maybe there is a u-tube video on it now.

You can also do this with stout cord (such as paracord). Tie it in an appropriately-sized loop, then pull one end under your belt. Hold the two ends of the loop together, then slide the gun through both, and then inside your waistband. Gun is secured, without a holster. Of course, you should get a proper holster ASAP!

Safety aside, if I tried it I would have a useless rusted solid hunk of, yes even stainless, steel staining my jeans and underwear in no time flat.

I have been carrying a S/W bodyguard .380 with a Clipdraw every single day for over 6 months. It is extremely secure, does not move around and is much more comfortable than any holster I have tried and I've tried 3 different ones including a pocket holster. It does not make my pants sag either but when I used the pocket holster it always pulled my pants down because it was just extra weight in my pocket and with the Clipdraw at my waist it holds against my side. I can say that I always have a lightweight t- shirt tucked in so the gun is not against my body then my other shirt is untucked and covers the gun well. I agree that I would not carry a Glock that way or one of my full size M&P 9's without a thumb safety but the bodyguard has a 10lb trigger pull and a thumb safety and gives me no concern of an accidental discharge. Just my 2 cents worth for a really great product for the right gun.

My cojones are too important to me to even try it.

A Sticky holster is cheap & can also be used in the pocket. I want that trigger covered & my pistol secured at all times, even for a couple of minutes of carry.

A local LEO was carrying Mexican style & while he was waiting in a grocery store check-out line his gun slipped down & out of his pant leg & when he grabbed for it & the inevitable happened - the gun discharged & child was struck. He lost his job & I believe even his freedom.

Another not-often-enough-taught lesson: DON'T TRY TO CATCH A DROPPED OR LOOSE GUN! Let it stop moving before trying secure it. I've read of other incidents where NDs happened. :(
