Default Home and Self Defense?

When it comes to home defense, Annie and Beau have got it covered. I don't need an electronic alarm system, believe you me. Electronic alarms don't hear stuff outside before it even gets close to the house. Annie and Beau do. They don't bother to call 911, either. They prefer to mete out justice as it's supposed to be done...especially Annie. That girl'll bite you. Her bite's fast as a Manny Pacquiao jab, and if you don't get out of the way, you'll get hit with it twice before you know it. Beau doesn't really bite...he just sorta grabs ahold of you and shakes you around until he finds a better toy to play with. Ever been knocked down by a 125-pound dog? Drop by the house sometime.

Seriously, home defense? I don't give it a thought and I sleep like a baby.

I knew the feeling, my friend. My system was a 120-lb female Rott whose parents were Schutzhund bred. She and her ankle-biter friend were all I needed for years. She was with me 24-hours per day at work and at home.

I know what you are saying. I have 2 Rin Tin Tin's both over 118 pounds. One sleeps on my bed, the other at the foot on his bed. They are my DEW line. They know everything going on outside. Then the BG meets the owner.

It's pretty cool that you each have your own shotgun.

Speaking of Shutzhund, I volunteered to wear a bite suit at a match one time years ago. I should've remembered my military training that says never to volunteer for anything. But I got all suited up and walked on out into this big field, and turned around to wait for the dog. Had my little flexible "stick" to use to supposedly "beat" the dog. Well, I'd seen matches before and I knew (or thought I did) what to expect. I was not prepared for being hit and grabbed by that Rottweiler. He slung me around like a dog toy and would not let go. He pulled me down and was doing the head shaking growly-snarly thing, but then the trainer gave him the "Off" command and he let me go. He sat there eyeballin' me like, "Wasn't that fun? Let's do it some more!" Did it two more times with two other dogs...man, my muscles were sore that night.

When it's all said & done, that's really all you can ask of any dog, to let you know when they hear something you can't.

One of the great things about little dogs is that they don't know they're little dogs. Plus, they have just as much love in their little hearts as a big dog.

I used to have 3 alarms. Sadly, two have been put down. Now it's just Bud (13) guarding the front door. He still does an admiral job!

Our two Yorkies, one male we had as a pup and is 5 and the female my wife found outside our building which nobody claimed a bout a year ago, bark at anything that comes into our building. In our second floor, 3 out of the 4 units have small dogs and they all bark anytime anyone is in the hallway. And our female who is about half the size of an average housecat is REALLY protective of the family and will nip now and then. Mostly though they're all just bark. The Shield and M&P 15 is what the BG really needs to worry about. =)

Gives a whole new meaning to yelling "woof." I watch the local K9 team in training and I am always in awe. Good for you, sir. Well done.

My 2 boys. The one on the right sleeps on my bed, on his side at the foot. The other boy likes his bed on the floor along side my bed. As I mentioned earlier, they are my DEW line. I sleep very very well. Both know their job descriptions and are ready to conduct business.

Hurt or miss treat my boys is the same as doing it to me.

I knew a LEO a while back who had several Rotts. Beautiful dogs ... He told me about a time when he was wrasslin' with one of the girls. She was a biggin, ~150lbs, and clamped down on his forearm and refused to let go. He said it was the only time the thought of shooting a dog had ever crossed his mind. He was able to coax her off his limb, with little more than a scare and sore arm to end play time.

WATCHDOG:

I beg to respectfully disagree for THESE REASONS.............

What about when you are not home? I will assume that you do take an occasional vacation and the Dogs are somewhere else. What about if you are just out for the day - Dogs can be poisoned, let out of the house, distracted and locked into another room etc.

Other reasons I LOVE my Central Station Alarm are:

* hard wired smoke and heat detectors - no batteries to die
* low temp detectors - no freezing pipes
* water leak detectors - automatically prevents floods
*carbon monoxide detectors - I like living
* panic alarm switch for the wife - yes I know you also have guns - but it makes them feel good
* automatically calls the Police and alerts then as to WHAT TYPE of alarm is set off - urgency priorities.
* good homeowners insurance discounts
* piece of mind

By the way...... Hard wired heat & smoke detectors CAN SAVE the Dogs life too if you are out when a fire should start! - just saying...........

Ziva, first line of defense-I've seen her in action round people she doesn't know/doesn't like-dogs have a great sense of good and bad when it comes to humans. She's a 75lb. Rott/Lab mix, now 4 years old and just wonderful..yeah she likes the snow too lol.

Just chillin'

1. That's all you need for Phase one!

2. Phase 2 starts when you send your wife to find out what that noise was or to simply face the intruder.

3. Lord knows my wife has talked her share of people to death before!

My mother had a rescue dog. It must have been some sort of herding dog but if provoked it would bite and bite fast. I had a mean little nephew who thought he was bad and one day he provoked Mom's dog.
The dog bit him on the leg, when my nephew went to hit the dog with his fist, the dog bit his arm, He tried to hit the dog with his other hand and the dog bit it too. Then he tried to kick the dog and the dog bit his other leg. My nephew gave up and never messed with that dog again. I laughed until I hurt. It took just a few seconds. That dog is resting in peace now, with my mother.

Having dogs greatly reduces the likelihood of your home being targeted. Most people with at least half a brain will not want to alert a dog, let along one or more that can rearrange their body parts.

However, not common but outdoor dogs have been neutralized with drugged or poisoned baits where the potential prize or loot was valuable enough. So, I would still use a layered defense system.

I may swing by and steal your Rotties. I know they love car rides. I had to euthanize Rottie #3 in the springtime. For the first time since 1991 I don't have a Rottweiler.

I had one when I lived in Manhattan. She was very sweet. My roommate used to walk her and he said people where more afraid of him than if he was walking down the sidewalk with a machete.
