Looking for suggestions on best solution (Maker) for an IWB Holster for a Night Guard 386 .357

I called Bell as they seem to have a lot of good ideas on IWB but they do not carry anything for this L-Frame shorty.

I've written to Milt Sparks regarding their Summer holster .... anyone carry this revolver and have recommendations for an IWB solution .... or, is the particular gun felt to be too heavy for IWB carry?
Thanks

The nightguard should carry fine. I carry guns much heavier. I've tried Mika, FIST and Milt Sparks IWB holsters. All of them are very good. If I had to pick one it would be a FIST kydex/leather hybrid canted IWB (get an open bottom and a body shield on it). It is very close to as comfortable as the Mika, but stays open for reholstering, is more comfortable than my Sparks VM-II, conceals a little better and costs less.

I'm about to bring home a 396 Night Guard in .44spl and had the same question. I'm actually more interested in an OWB/pancake design but an IWB would be great too. I seem to be running into problems because of the Night Guard configuration (2.5" L frame).

I'd really like to find a Del Fatti rig for this gun but Matt's not taking orders at the moment.

I use a Galco Summer Comfort for my 586 3", my 2.5" 396NG and 386PD fit it just fine. I use it for all three when wanting to carry IWB. The extra half inch will never be felt.

Thanks for the info on Galco ... I'll pursue that.
Have you found a good OWB, Belt Holster for the same?
I'm looking at the 386NG, 7 shot, and "might" consider adding Crimson Trace grips. I think the 386NG is an "L" Frame?

Also looking at the 637 CT but that is a "J" Frame and I think the IWB Holsters from Bell Charter Oak have some good features ... I like the way the clip is not on top of the Cylinder so it makes for a thinner profile,

Ended up buying the "K" frame Model 315 in .38
Now need to find a good holster(s) for it, both IWB and OWB.

I've used the Summer Special designs before. To me they're extremely uncomfortably because they concentrate the weapon's weight on a small area where the belt loops are. Also, because the loops are stacked directly on top of the weapon, it makes the rig thicker and slightly more difficult to conceal.

I very much prefer designs with loops offset fore and aft, like Sparks' Versa Max-II or their Watch Six holsters. The offset loops spread the weapon's weight over a larger area, functioning somewhat like a snowshoe in deep snow. IMO, these designs are light years ahead of the Summer Special holsters in terms of comfort and they also tend to be lower profile at the points of belt attachment.

If you intend to call Milt Sparks, I'd recommend doing it in the next few days. They now take orders based on a monthly quota and once they reach the number of orders they feel they can produce in a reasonable time frame, they stop taking orders for that month. As you can imagine, they reach that quota relatively early in each month.

Good luck,
Jack

P.S. You might also consider K&D Holsters. Kevin Manley (sp?) offers some interesting designs for a wide range of guns - including some very reasonably priced exotic leathers. I believe his site is kdholsters dot com.

jack,

I got lucky and got through on the phone to Milt Sparks Co. Placed an order for a VM II to fit my new Night Guard 315... now the 6 month wait.
Thanks
Ken

I've got a new holster for a PM9 on the way from Eric at HBE. I really like his work, so I'm considering the HBE COM3 for a revolver. I too like the Milt Sparks holsters, but not sure I can stand the wait time.

Eric has been super to deal with and the wait time is a lot less.

Milt Sparks VMII off set loops spread the weight.

I carry a Govt model 1911, a CCO model 1911, a J frame S&W 640-1, and a Model 19 21/2" in VMII's. Do we see a pattern developing here?

I have found nothing to compare, but you will have a loonng waiting period for one unless you find a used one or Lightning Arms Sports has one in stock for a few minutes.

Here is the J-frame S&W in one.

Could you please go into further detail about which model this is. I may just buy this. Tks.

That would be the FIST #1A clip on with forward cant. Make sure you specify the leather/kydex hybrid. I carry a 5" full underlug N frame in one all the time. A lightweight L frame would be a snap.
