I heard on the local news last week that Arizona is looking at reversing the law prohibiting CCW in restaurants that serve alcohol. I have sent my one state senator and my two state representatives letters advocating this. I had the idea to write my state politicians after reading that Tennesee has just passed such a law. Ironically, I then heard the story on the local news. Do any of you know of any progress on this in Arizona? How do I find out how it's going?

Since I'm planning a move to AZ in the very near future, I'll keep my antenna up...In NM, like most states: no CC where liquor is served by the drink. My kudos to the great state of Tennessee....

In pennsylvania they trust us to have a drink at dinner and not shoot anyone.

In MN a carry permit is valid in bars and restaurants. The permit becomes invalid when the carrier hits an alcohol level of .04 . I stick with O'Douls Amber because of the civil liability issues. BTW, there have been no big shoot outs between permit holders in MN saloons.

Why do you say most states? Establishments that serve alcohol are OK for CCW in Colorado; you just can't be drinking. I knew about NM, what other states forbid CCW in restaurants that serve alcohol.

And in Texas, if the establishment receives less than 50% income from alcohol sales (most restaurants), you can carry... AND drink. But better not become "intoxicated." That's against the law.

As stated before, one who cannot act responsibly whilst armed and enjoying a beer/cocktail should not do either.

Not that any one is paying any attention to my opinion, but here it is anyway.

People should be able to carry where alcohol is served. People who are intoxicated should not be able to carry or drive.

If the law says I can drive an automobile at up to a .08 blood alcohol level, then I should be able to carry at that level. (Not that I recommend either, but maximum levels have to be set some where.)

Actually, I worry more about some people's caffeine levels than I do about their alcohol levels.

Caffeine is totally unregulated, and sold to anyone, at any time of the day, no matter what their age.

I hope some day, to be able to retire to that general area.

MA and NH have no restrictions on CCW in a bar or restaurant . . . and don't forbid you from drinking while armed.

MA makes it a crime to CCW while intoxicated, I don't know if NH has a similar law. Being a "one drink" person with dinner (at most and oftentimes no drink at all), I don't concern myself with that aspect of the law.

In Missouri, CCW is permitted in a bonafied restaurant (ie: 51% of gross reciepts from food sales). In actual bars or taverns you must have permission from the manager or owner in order to carry on your CCW inside the bar.

Of course, it doesn't have to make sense, because it's the law.

Just to pick nits, I don't think there is a prohibition (that I've been able to find in a *lot* of researching C.R.S.) against drinking alcohol while armed in Colorado. The statutes say it is prohibited to be "impaired" while carrying. That opens the whole can of worms of what is "impaired." C.R.S. does not set a BAC defining impaired as it does in driving while impaired.

Since I travel annually in the sourthwest I've found that, as discussed, AZ and NM prohibit carrying any place where alcohol is served for "on-premise consumption." Texas, OTOH has the 51% rule. You cannot carry in an establishment that derives more than 51% of it's revenue from alcohol sales (basically bars, as opposed to restaurants that serve.)

IANAL, so my free opinion is worth everything paid for it ;-)

Be careful though. I think Breckenridge has a prohibition on CCW in bars.

Apparently KY follows TX, legal if the establishment derives less than 50% of its sales from alcohol consumed on premesis. Beyond that, you must maintain below .08.

Hopefully KY will follow suite with TN and AZ. Wonder if we can convince OH to...

The Arizona bill for concealed carry in establishments that serve alcohol (SB 1113) was passed and signed by Governor Jan Brewer. It goes into effect Sept 30. It only applies for CCW holders and you can't consume alcohol.
