Sweat guard or not?

I've decided it's time to buy a new IWB holster and my last decision is whether to go with a sweat guard or not. I'm purchasing a leather holster. I carry a Glock 19, so I don't really care about sweating on the finish of the gun. My bigger concern is whether the sweat guard makes carry more comfortable, i.e. keeping the gun itself from rubbing against your body. I have heard arguments both for and against the sweat guard in terms of comfort.

Anyone have any experiences with this?

I prefer them but not to protect the handgun from sweat, its just more comfortable to me. My Pistol holsters come standard with the slide guard but can be made with out them upon request. Most of my customers seem to prefer them.

I prefer them for a higher level of comfort also, regardless of the guns material. If it's available, Horse is really nice to wear! IMHO.

Dan,
I'll thank you to NOT make critiques on my manly form and figure since ending my nicotine addiction? I can't help it, it's glandular...

Look at my review of sideguard holsters IWB it has a sweat guard but is increadibly comfortable and all leather

I don't find it uncomfortable to carry my 40VE without a sweat guard, but it is absolutely needed when I carry my 1911 as it has more sharp edges and things to poke you with.

I also wear a wife beater when I carry anything, it keeps the stitches on the holster from imprinting little dotted lines on me.

I would. I usually wear a t-shirt when I carry IWB, and for a while here, I had to switch to a pocket carried Model 36. It was just too hot for a polo shirt and a t-shirt. My next IWB will protect the gun from me and vice versa.

The sweat guard protects the finish of the weapon, the shirt from wear/lubricant and/or your hide from wear. It's a royal @#$%^ to ruin a dress shirt on the first wearing with lube you didn't see. It also helps keep your shirt out of the holster when reholstering. I don't have any dun-laps that would interfere with holstering, so I can't speak to that issue.

I've got a sweat guard on the last OWB concealment holster I bought and think it's a good idea here too.

Sweat guard, body shield, whatever you call it - heck yes! Makes a huge difference in comfort. I wish I could swap every IWB holster I ever bought without the sweat guard for one with the guard. I'd actually swap two without for one with.

Sportsmansguide has a good deal on Blackhawk CQC leather IWB holsters with sweatguards. Cost is approximately $45. Model selection is not that deep, but they do have one that fits 59XX and 40XX series autos. I got one and its as nice as I have ever owned. FWIW, you can see the selection here: Blackhawk Beretta 92 / 96 Leather Inside Pants Holster, Black, Holsters, Blackhawk at Sportsman's Guide

Thanks for the thoughts guys. The only problem I've ever had with a sweat guard is I have a Comp-Tac Infidel holster and sometimes I feel like the Kydex sweat guard part bites into my side.

I don't think I'd like a Kydex IWB. I'd stick with leather or some other softer synthetic material.

If you get a Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe, you can get it without the combat cut, see if you like it, and then if you decide you want the combat cut, you can send it back and have it done. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Here's the link to the FAQ page about it: FAQs

What G/C said.
In a rare moment of wisdom, I selected their Super Tuck W/O the combat cut (Horse) sure glad I did!
