K frame snub carry was surprisingly easy

This works well for me with my model 66. The 4 o'clock thing.

Please tell me the make and model can not read it in the photo.

My username indicates my preference, and it works very well. These days I use an O'Rourke pancake, but a Bianchi #3S worked very well back when I used to carry a 2.5" M19.

I recently drug out my M19 and tried it in a holster. Still a great gun with Magnas and a Tyler, Pachmayr Compacs, or Pachmayr Compac Pro. The 2" 15 (SB) requires Rogers/Safariland grips. Surely YMMV.

Sure...see below. Mine's a 3" model 66.

I don't mean to stray off topic, but the Pistol Pocket helps make a great point on carry comfort.
When I moved from the floppy suede IWB holsters with flimsy metal clips that allowed the holster to come out with the gun, my first move was to the Bianchi Pistol Pocket for a Colt Commander. That thing was so painful to carry, I never could tolerate it for more than 30 minutes. And yet, I worked with a guy who swore by one to carry a 4506.
My point is that I still became an almost exclusive user of IWB carry because I kept looking for holsters that would work for ME.
Carrying a 3" or 4" barrel K frame Or full sized auto concealed is a piece of cake, with the right holster for YOU. It is all a matter of keeping an open mind and looking at options.

You know off duty cops been carrying K frame snubbies OWB for 50 years?

^^^^ Started in 1976 off duty and continued through career in plain clothes until 1990s when went to Glock 23. Never liked IWB holsters. Key to OWB is round butt and high rise pancake holster. Jacket, sport coat, sweat shirt, long tail shirt covers nicely. My rig from back in the day and still have it. Model 64 2”. (Not a good picture but you get the idea-4 o clock position is even better)

Tom what holster model is that. I’m looking for a high riding OWB for my 2” 10-5. I’m seeing lots of holsters for 2 1/2” . I don’t wNt that extra 1/2” of holster hanging down

Unfortunately not a commercial holster. One of our fellow officers made them back in the 1970s. Simple design. Very flexible leather. Bottom is open so if you wanted to carry a longer barrel you could. Our issue was a 4” Nickel Model 10. Still in good shape after all these years. A lot of new leather holsters seem very stiff. Maybe you could find a leather worker to make one.

True dat!

While that Bianchi above is a dream for me, I can wear it indefinitely, and I do. One has to fish around and find the right rig for their own comfort.

For instance, in an autoloader, I find the IWB Galco Royal Guard to fit me perfectly. Perfectly.

BUT I can't wear a IWB Mitch Rosen holster or a IWB Israeli Yamam holster. Both of these ride high and the barrel tends to tip inward poking into my hip. They do conceal well, but I can't wear them.

Just sharing info learned over a very long time.

When I visit my son (my permit is recognized in his state) he loans me a 66-1 snub with Herrett grips. I decided to try AIWB using a soft suede holster. I normally carry a 442-1 in a soft leather holster in the same position.

I was surprised at how easy it was to conceal even with my spare tire around the mid section. I had no issues sitting or moving and it was very comfortable.

This has given me an “ah ha” moment that I can probably carry something a little bigger at home. I have been looking at a P365 and tried a Glock 19 once but that was horrible. Revolvers are more in my comfort zone and seem to feel better carried at that position.

I’m now looking at a Colt Cobra Carry or maybe a new Diamondback SDR. I tried to get back the 66-1 but my son loves it.

You can teach an old dog a new trick after all as it has taken me years to get past pocket carry to IWB carry and now I want a larger handgun.
I started CCW in 1986 and kept at it until today.
I see you have kept your girlish figure
:-) good for you! AIWB carry is much more difficult if you have a big gut in the way. In the picture what you are showing is what I call "crotch carry" at 12 o'clock. Appendix carry would be over to the right over your actual appendix at the 2 o'clock position. It looks like you are left handed? That would feel like a cross draw for you. Yes you can carry a bigger gun but not, I repeat not a longer barrel. The grip just above your belt can be a full size 17 round mag, but a 4inch barrel will dig into your lower gut while seated.

Remember the only reason to have the gun down in your pants is because your shirt or sweater/jacket is too short to cover the bottom of the holster. I suspect a lot of people nowadays are so sedentary that they go for appendix carry because there is no flexibility in their shoulders to get to a gun carried OWB at the 4 o'clock position.

I'm old, and definitly not svelt (185 lbs, 5'-9")

Carrying a model 10 snub in an OWB pancake is comfy and easily concealable. Secret #1 for my no-waist physique is a set of Perry Suspenders. Secret #2 is carry every day, all day. In just a few days, I cannot even tell there is a gun under my over-shirt.

However, of late I have been using a steel Taurus 856 in a similar holster. It is a bit larger than a J-frame and about the size of a Colt Dick Special.

In the summer, I often switch to pocket carry with a Ruger LCR.

Again, do not discount either one of the secrets . . .

When I had a 2" M10, I used a Don Hume JIT Slide.

I have used one as a range holster for 2" 10's and 15's. While I don't like the muzzle sticking out of the bottom of a holster, there is so little of it with the 2" that even I don't have much of an issue.
The JIT is a straight drop holster if that matters to you.

A j-frame for me is a pocket gun in a pocket holster. As soon as you start talking a belt holster it is just as easy to carry something larger, therefore easier to shoot under stress. I am 100% inside the waistband carry. Which means a four inch barrel is as easy to hide as a two inch. It is the butt that is hard to hide. So a round butt K frame is a great carry gun for revolver fans.

Here is my model 65. It started out as a s/b but a trip to Mag-Na-Port fixed that and the barrel was ported at the same time. This is one of my favorite S&W's. It's light but strong and easy as heck to carry.

The most underrated Smith K frame.
Model 12.
My model 12-2....1964 vintage.
Got an undeserved bad rap somewhere down the
line but a pleasure to carry.

I have a couple of 2" and one 4". When Colt announced the return of the Viper I was thinking alloy frame. I was disappointed to hear all stainless steel. Then a serious "duh" moment when I remembered my 4" Mod 12.
What do you use for carry ammo? I still have a couple of boxes of Federal Nyclad 125gr. non +P I keep just for my Mod 12's.

At my age 79, K frames are fun to shoot but too heavy and too big. Kimber K6xs 6 rounds of +P, 16ozs and it fits in a holster I have for a 640 Pro.

I carry a K frame concealed, as a second gun: a 2” M12 RB in appendix OWB under an untucked shirt. It’s the only thing I’ve been comfortable carrying appendix (comfortable physically and mentally).

I find it so much easier to shoot than a J frame that whatever small amount of comfort I give up is worth it. I’d rather carry my square butt 2” 12 because I shoot it a little better, but I do find the SB less comfortable (or maybe more annoying) in this carry position.

Holster is a Don Hume JIT belt slide.

Being an M12, I load it from my stash of standard pressure Nyclad 125 HPs. Not the best performing load in the caliber IMO, but it is what it is. I know people shoot +P in them, and I should be OK for six rounds, but I do it anyway.
