Is this guy carrying? What do you think?
I spotted this fellow in Gander Mtn. the other day. I recalled discussing fanny packs on here once or twice, so I thought I'd snap a photo on my camera.
So what do you think? Is he packin' or just committing a fashion crime?

Absolutely packing.
That's no average fanny pack....that's a tactical fanny pack and carrying something very heavy.
And yes, the fashion crime is obvious.

If anyone is panicked by the possibility that this guy might be letting folks know he's carrying a gun, I suggest that he or she avoid open-carry states, police stations and the like. As far as fashion, I barely care about it in females, reserving my observation for more essential details. Men? Who cares?

Mike, I think that you would expect a fanny pack on a 10 year old. On a full grown adult male.....not so much. Not that it's a bad thing, but it does scream "Gun" to me as well.

I use a fanny-pack (poor name cause it's never on my fanny ) made by "Bagmaster". I use it when it's not convenient or comfortable to conceal carry in some other way.
What's important to me is that I have my firearm with me.
What about fashion ...... I could give a rats rear-end about fashion. I let my wife and daughters worry about fashion.
What about someone else guessing that I'm carrying? I doubt it, the general public doesn't think that way. Probably 99% of the folks out in public don't give it a thought. What if someone does correctly guess that I'm carrying? If it's in my fanny-pack ( I hate that name) , holstered under my shirt or in my pocket...I don't care. I'm legal to carry and I don't care if they know or not. I don't flaunt the fact that I'm carrying, but I've carried concealed for years, and I stopped worrying about someone knowing a long time ago.

Me too. Almost as much as the khaki "tactical vests" that hang down well below the belt. Might as well have a flashing neon sign on your back "I'm carrying a concealed weapon".
But, the average schmo would never notice.

Not all persons wearing fanny packs are packing, many are tourists, bike riders, etc. I'm planning on buying a bike this summer (the pedal kind) and was looking into getting a fanny pack for CCW and other stuff, (but I would wear mine in front as they should be). After reading these posts, I'm glad I didn't ask anyone on here for advice on a good one.
Also, I don't get the problem with the cargo shorts. I would have thought cargo shorts/pants to be commonly worn by the CCW crowd. They are the best way to go for pocket carry if you don't want some big bore gun jammed between your hip. I plan on buying few pairs myself.
There are far worse bozos out there then this guy deserving criticism. He could have chosen a less conspicuous looking fanny pack and worn it differently, other then that I don't see what the big deal is.

Once upon a time, I spent considerable time in areas where fanny packs were as common as flies. The ones that don't carry guns are clearly different from those that do.
That gent is both carrying and careless in many ways. I notice the clerk seems to be staying out of the line of fire-very advisable.

You might as well put on a shirt that says, "Hey world, look at me, I'm carrying a gun"

Being a old timer, I had no idea people carried in fanny packs until a noticed a couple of motorcycle riding friends always had fanny packs. I though they were for their cigars, lighters, wallets, etc.
It turns out the fanny packs for CCW. One relates a story about how he was invited to leave the Alamo by security because they noticed his fanny pack and asked him if he was carrying.
Old guys learn something new every day. I ordered me one this week.

Someone used to make a fanny pack that had a pull up kevlar vest built in. You'd yank on the bottom and pull it over your head.

Guns aren't allowed to be carried into the Alamo? That's rather ironic.

I don't find it odd because when I'm wearing cargo shorts and carrying a large gun like either of my 40 cals (S&W 410 or Taurus PT140SS) that's exactly the way I wear my fanny pack. It's accessible and if I wear it in the front, I look like a circus clown (I'm 5' 8" and 210 lbs so there's enough out front already). I actually prefer to carry much smaller stuff with shorts (Kel-Tec P3AT or titanium J-frame .357 Taurus).

Yep . . . probably a steel framed 1911 type high cap.
Probably an extra magazine for same in his lower right pocket.
He doesn't look like a gang banger . . . just a typical gun enthusiast looking to expand his collection. Probably has a license too.
Obviously, he didn't go on a rampage in the store either or we'd have heard about it on CNN.
Just a typical Joe . . .

I have a Bulldog fanny pack just like he has but don't use it unless I'm out biking or something to that effect. As you see if you wear it in front which is what I'd prefer so you could access your weapon faster the fanny pack sticks way out their like your giving birth so I don't wear mine except on certain occasions. Anyone know of a slimmer fannypack that doesn't draw attention?

Just a hunch, but I'd say yes. Right cargo pocket looks like there might be a flashlight in it.
The thing in front of the fanny pack kinda looks like the clip from a Crossbreed or similar tuckable holster. Also notice what appears to be a slight bulge under the shirt just above the clip.

Wherever it is, they are surely gone. Post is three years old.
I don't know about the fanny pack, I use them now and then when I am traveling and hardly ever use them to carry a pistol, but the shorts and fashion police thing are almost a dead letter. People wear shorts so often (when they shouldn't) that it is nearly pointless to mention it. And the overwhelming popularity of sleeveless shirts is even more disgusting. I can usually ignore this stuff... unless I am trying to eat. I wish people would stay out of the restaurants when they are dressed like that.

Sorry 'bout that. For some reason this thread showed up somewhere near the top of the concealed carry threads and I didn't even think to look at the date on it.

Well, If I did use a fanny pack, these days it would have in it:
1. spare sun/eyeglasses
2. hearing aid case
3. breathing inhaler
4. wallet
5. other assorted stuff I find in my pockets
Seems like the older I get the more stuff I have to lug around. I probably need a purse...but that ain't gonna happen. I don't live in San Freaksisco.
But a gun...naaaaaaaaa

If I see a white guy like that with the glow in the dark pale white legs, cargo shorts, a fanny pack, a t-shirt and I wouldn't be surprised if he was wearing a ball cap and had a goatee. I'd think that's just a typical white guy and wouldn't give it a second thought. But, yeah he does look like he's packin' something in that fanny pack.

Why do they call it a fanny pack if you wear it in front? shouldn't it be a belly pack?

Fanny packs are, unfortunately, a dead give away, at least to us. So are photo journalist vests, cargo or 5.11 pants and METAL CLIPS VISIBLE ON YOUR BELT WITH YOUR EVENING PORTERHOUSE WITH HOLSTER ATTACHED BEHIND YOUR TUCKED IN SHIRT.
Sorry for the all caps, but had to make that point because of all of the people buying these unfortunate "tuckable" holsters with a whole cowhide attached.
