Anyone carry a HiPower concealed? My favorite way to carry is IWB, but I wonder if an HP is too big for that. Finances allowing, an HP is on my "short list".

Thanks for your input.

:)

(eta: oops, I meant Hi Power)

The HiPower is ordinarily NOT too big for that. Except for the slightly fatter grip, it is the same as a 1911. In fact, you can almost always use a 1911 holster for the P35. As for whether the grip will conceal, I think that that mostly has to do with the relationship between your shoulders and hips, and perhaps waist, which all affect how a jacket drapes and where the butt of the grip will be. I do not have a problem with a HiPower even in a Mitch Rosen OWB holster (for a 1911), which is certainly no better than a good IWB.

Borrow some buddy's 1911 holster and try it out.

Good answer, thanks.

(I wonder if I can borrow some buddy's HP too - indefinitely. :p )

I find Hi-Powers to be easier to carry and conceal than 5" 1911s, and at least as easy to conceal as a Commander-size gun. The butt is a little fatter (not much, if you put the right grips on it) but is shorter than a full-length 1911/Commander grip frame. The slide is delightfully thin, so carry in a good IWB is painless. When I carry one of my Hi-Powers, it is usually in a Brommeland Max-Con V.

Very good to hear, thanks for the reply.

I guess my main concern was the length of the grip. I carry an M&P 9c nearly every day. Once or twice I've tried it with a full size mag w/sleeve - like this:

The grip poked out a little too much, so I never carry it like this. (I will pop this higher capacity mag in once in a while at the end of the day, just before I put it down for its bed time - about a foot from where I put myself down. ;) )

Actually, if you measure around both grips, the P-35 has about the same circumference as the 1911...but the slide is narrower so that helps in the pants...

The BHP is pretty easy to carry IWB. It is my second favorite handgun for that purpose, my favorite being a 4" S&W K-frame.

My biggest problem with the BHP was not the size of the grip, but the fact that the cocked hammer would dig into my side, especially when I was seated in a car.

It took be a while to find a good holster, but the holster-maker on this forum made me one with a leather shroud that keeps the hammer from digging at me.

I carry an '66 highpower with mmc adjustable night sights. At first I carried it in a el paso saddlery iwb, and that was great.I ll probably go back to that in cover garmet weather. I had to cut a notch out of the mouth of the holster for sight clearance. Then I found out about crossbreed supertuck holsters. Wow, sucks the highower right in and makes it invisable. Very comfortable. Works while driving(slow draw though). It is actully harder to hide the reload than the gun. I went with the horsehide combat cut options then had a saddlemaker put an extra piece of leather to prevent muzzle pant contact. Oh, I am 5'6 160lbs of twisted steel and sex appeal! (ok, just pretty fit) so even a small guy can hide a full size pistol, which is one among many virtues of the hipower.

I carried mine like this, usually. It concealed well under an ACU shirt when not carried in a leg holster or shoulder rig. A Browning is a superb pistol.

I regularly carry a late '80s vintage "hybrid" (old sights, new safety) High Power. I've added a Pachmayr adjustable rear sight and Pachmayr grips.

I carry in a Don Hume 715M IWB.

No holster. I always left the tactical leg holster in the HUMVEE and tucked the Hi Power in my waistband when I needed to be "unarmed". 2 extra mags loaded with GI ball were in another pocket.

Have liked ,used, and carried a Hi-power since the early 70's.

The Browning Hi Power will always be on my short list of must-have handguns. I carried one regularly for several years, and will never be without one.

IWB poses no big problems. As noted in other responses, the narrow slide is easy to conceal. The grip, while relatively large, is not difficult for most folks to conceal. A modest forward cant reduces the cross-section of the handgun considerably.

I do recommend a slide shield to protect the body from the slide/hammer/safety areas. Not difficult for a holster maker to do.

Some folks try to use holsters formed for the 1911 or Commander to carry the Browning Hi Power (a few holster makers have even catalogued and sold holsters this way). I recommend a holster specifically formed for the Hi Power, as the narrower slide will not be properly retained in a holster formed for the Colts, and movement within the holster can cause increased holster wear on the pistol finish.

I will most definately be getting a hold of Lobo gun leather before my next tour for a couple of holsters for both 1911s and Hi Powers. You never know what you'll run into overseas as a carry piece (there's lots of guns around to trade). This time I'll be ready with different leather.

I used to use a Hi-power offside/kidney/mexican style. The big grip kept the gun from sliding into my pants. I now carry a 625-9 mountain gun that way...even better!! There was a guy in the gun shop showing the little 22mag revolver he carried. I asked he he could tell if I was carrying. No? Then I produced this full sized revolver. Better yet, I can draw and fire with either hand. Ace
