I figured the lounge might be the safest place to ask this question.
Do any of you (of us) also use the c**t forum? I tried to register but no luck.

I have a python hunter that I have had for many years. I wrapped it in acid free paper years ago, why? I don' know. I recently took it out to shoot and found that the foam inside the haliburton case had disintegrated. It would have ruined a beautiful gun. In my case, the haliburton case providedd by colt was one of the niceties.
Does anyone know how I could go about replacing the foam. Colt would not offer any help.

You can find various forms of "foam" at shipping supply stores, or ask at any of the businesses you may deal with,,,,,lots of different things get shipped around the country in all types of foam and being the case has two halves, you will not need a lot of it and foam is easy to "cut out" ( use an electric carving knife...works for us) you can refit whatever you may want to use in the case, try and copy the cut outs of the guns and stuff, or heck just put full pieces in and wrap some nice "royal blue' clothe, you can get at any fabric supply house and make it to what YOU like....yes, some of those cases, as well as even the S&W presentation cases, some oils can and will "react" with the foam and cause it to deteriorate rapidly , or may take longer...... they were NOT intended for "storage" just to "carry" the gun around or "present it"....

The Colt Forum is full of good info, however, it doesn't get a lot of traffic, especially compared to the S&W Forum.

I ordered from them to make a case for my match air pistol.
It worked very well. Lots of foam styles to choose from.

There's several kinds of foam. Open cell and closed cell to start with. Do some research and get the right one, your gun would thank you.

Not that familiar with the C form, but I recently started looking at the Ruger forum, and it gets a lot of activity,,I do not own but a few Rugers, but it is a good forum, but this is the one I go to first..

I registered at the Colt forum about the same time I registgered here; a couple of months ago. Had no trouble then. I read it, but traffic is really slow, especially in the revolver forum. It's almost as slow as traffic on the Darne site.

If you are bogus bill. I read you have colt shipped oct31 1906 to the copper queen mining co. In bisbee AZ. I too have that same colt info for my colt.one of 3 colts on that shippment ..what are the chances ..just have to locate the 3rd gun..cheers dave Vancouver Canada .my gun was found inside of a wall .loaded.of a 80 to 90 year old house.

The Colt Forum is full of good info, however, it doesn't get a lot of traffic, especially compared to the S&W Forum.

The Colt Forum gets an awful lot of traffic if you are interested in Colt information; revolvers, SAA, semi automatic, etc. What it does not get is a lot of fluff. You should post your question there and under revolvers. Good luck.

I have been on the Colt forum for a long time. If you ask a question there, you may have to wait weeks for an answer. I began to get a complex. Ask Colt questions here and you'll probably get an answer within hours. Go figure.

I have a foam company who is local. The guy was nice enough to give me a few pieces of foam for my custom gun case. Can you give us a picture of the case so we can figure out what type of foam it is? He gave me this grey foam and so far it has worked great:

I last visited coltforum on the 17th of Dec. There have been 4,672 new posts since then. Not as busy as here, but not slow by any stretch of the imagination.

They tend to be a little more dry over there, not as much jocularity as here!

Do Not store guns in foam lined cases. Prolonged exposure to the foam can damage the finish. Not exactly sure why, but it will do it.
I got a really good deal on a 24-3 that the owner stored in a foam lined box because it has several places where the finish was noticably dulled from contact with the foam.
Great shooter though.

I have a Zero Haliburton double rifle case and the foam went bad. I found some similar foam at Rocklers/woodworking in St. Louis. I am not sure it was a normally stocked item.

P.S. I do not store guns in the case. It is for transport only.

I have stored my guns in cases for years without any issues. S&W cases are all foam lined and they are for storage of your guns. Many high end gun companies use foam cases. Something must have gotten into the foam case you had. But it also depends on what type of foam. If you have the one that dries out then yes, it can scratch the gun. Usually what causes that from my experience is UV light.

If you go to the Zero Halliburton web site you can find replacement foam in their accessories area.

I ordered some for one of my cases a few years ago. It came precut to fit the model of my case. It is on the expensive side, but it works.

Keep in mind that many types of foam will retain water (think humid locations). If you do store any guns in the foam I would recommend putting the gun in a bore-stor or other protective sleeve first.
