I stumbled upon one today and would like to use it as my hunting/woods carry revolver. I was wondering if I could use speer gold dots, or standard factory SD loads in it, or are they too high pressure? I know its not a Ruger and wont be putting buffalo bore through it, but thought I would ask. Thanks.

Colt New frontier in 45LC question

They have at least two levels of loads for the ancient .45 Colt.
I'm sort of in the same boat. I own a Uberti Colt clone in .45, and a Marlin 1894 'Cowboy' in the same caliber.
I know the marlin can handle much hotter loads, but really don't want to put much more than 'cowboy' loads in the Colt clone. So I just use cowboy level ammo in both.
An interesting deal....I reloaded some .45 Colts with black powder, full load(about 36gr), and these felt much 'hotter' than the cowboy ammo I've been shooting!
I would imagine the Colt New Frontier is limited to the same pressure level as any other peacemaker clone. The basic pistol is identical to any second/third model Colt SSA excepting the sights.

Go ahead and use the Speer 250 gr Gold Dot loads. They are standard pressure loads and will be fine in it. (I uase them with no worries in my S&W 25-5) I would not use the so-called +P loads ( like the Cor-Bon loads) in it although a limited amount shouldn't hurt it.
