Winchester Gun Safe at Costco?

Greetings,

I think each person should buy the safe that "calls to them", after checking out the info available. I, too, saw that UTube video of that Winchester safe, after it had been pried open. However, the safe that Costco is currently selling, is head and shoulders above the one that is shown in that video. I'll try to take and post come photos of the beefed up parts, and you will easily see that the two safes are not even close to the same. I do know that just about any safe can be broken into by pros, especially if they are setup and bolted down properly. But, with the changes made to the current Costco safes, by Granite Security, I think they will be FAR harder to crack open, than the one shown in that video. I also saw a video on a Centurion safe being pried open, too, by two guys, and after checking out that safe, I decided to pass on buying it. The ones offered, are the same as those in the video. For what it's worth....

In any case, best of luck on your own decision on this important piece of equipment. I know that you will do what you feel is best, and truly, that's about all that any of us can do. Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

P.S. I'll try to post photos of the beefed up door tomorrow, if time allows.

Greetings, All,

Today, I received a PM, asking for more info on that Costco gun safe I just got. Though I have replied to the Gentleman that has asked the questions, I thought others might need the same info, too. There appears to have been at least two, and maybe more, different "Winchester Gun Safes" sold at Costco in the last couple of years. In my casting about for information on this safe, I realized that the newest ones are head and shoulders above what was offered a few years back.

For those that might need this info, the actual model number on the current Costco, Winchester/Granite Security safe (RSC) is: "WC5928"

The item number on the outside of the box on the current Costco Winchester safes is: "441293"

I'll post a few photos of the beefed-up door in the current safe. For those that viewed the i-net video entitled "My Winchester gun safe failed me", you will see a HUGE difference in the doors of the safe in question, when compared to the currently sold Costco offering from Winchester, the door of which measures 1 1/4" thick on the front edge. Also, at the new safe has far more locking bolts (ten), is three-way, instead of 1-way, and has larger locking bolts (1 1/4"), too, than the one that was pried open by thieves in that video that's making the rounds. In any case, please check out the photos I'm posting, and see if that helps to clear away the clouds of confusion about this particular safe, compared to the ones of a few years ago, which had far thinner doors, one-way actions, and four locking bolts, only. Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

Can't remember seeing this item the last time I was in the store, and it is not on their website. Maybe I need to pay more attention next visit.

i was just at my costco tonight getting some items. i saw this safe there. it is indeed solid. and seems to be good size for the money. i also was recently at my local gun shop and they sell Ameerican security safes that start about 1500 and go up to 3-4k. i could get 2 or 3 of these costco safes for that price. i live in a good neighborhood but i am more concerned about theft than i am fire although a bit of fire protection helps. also my oldest child turns 20 months on 1-19. while the ammo is in the garage under a padlock, the guns are in the house. He has never been unsupervised in his life and cant open doors yet and we keep all the doors closed during the day and my wife is a stay at home mom, it will only be a short time before he wil be rooting around.

i dont see the safe in discussion on the website but this one looks pretty good for 2x teh price

I'm not a fan of electronic locks.

I want a Patriot safe. They were quite a bit thicker than other models when I was comparing safes.

The Winchester safe looks good w/four sides bolt pattern & the price is attractive.

Winchester Safe at Costco

I to have found a Winchester safe at Costco. I don't know much about Winchester safes but the price seems too good to be true. It is 34 CF for $799. I can't find out what brand the electronic lock is. The safe is made in China and the steel is thinner than my 20 year old Canon.
I can use the help.
Thank You.

Aloha,

Do not forget to BOLT it down to the floor thru the holes that bolted it down to the pallet.

Ours is bolted down to the cement floor slab. Previously, before we moved to where we are, I had added about a dozen bags of lead shotgun pellets on the floor. Not to mention all the other stuff we put inside.

FWIW: When we moved, I bought the Wife Her Own safe(His n Hers) to put her guns, jewelry, wedding album and anything else She valued.

Freed up room in mine for more of My stuff.....

Thanks Yogi, I'm on a concrete foundation. Have you had any problems with the quality of the safe or the lock.

It's 750 lbs. they will load the pallet into my truck. I have a cherry picker with forks and straps and a pallet jack.
