Colt CCO
Alright, I need some help with this one. Who's got one, and how do you like them. Seems like it would make a real nice carry 1911, but why aren't there more made? I know the XS model has MIM and the Gunsite model doesn't, but what about the '98 guns?

I had a Colt CCO Gunsite... another one I wish I still had...
Great gun perfect carry.. In my opinion.. the Kimber Ultra's took over that " Small" 1911 market..
I'd buy another one.. pricey.. but worth it IMHO

I had a Defender for a while, and have looked at the Ultras but decided that the Commander length slide is as short as I want to go on a 1911. I've been watching for a nice Commander (preferably series 70), until this model caught my eye.

You've got a couple nice ones there, Iggy. Always like to drool on pictures of a DW 1911. Never have been in the right place at the right time to scoop one up for a decent price. Not to totally change the subject, but how do the post CZ's compare the the pre CZ's?

I think they now have a better and more reliable parts source and stream, thus are using better innards and quality has improved since the changeover.
Same dedicated crew who are proud of their product and stand behind it.

I think the CCO size 1911 is just about the perfect concealed carry piece and I'd love to have a real Colt CCO but they're hard to come by and currently Colt doesn't make one, I don't know why. S&W has the ES, SIG has the C3, DW makes at least one, I know Kimber makes small ones and Commander sized guns but I don't know if they do a CCO size. Other than those I think you have to go to one of the "custom" houses to get one.
I have a number of full size 1911s, one Commander size, and an alloy framed Fusion 9mm CCO that I got from a forum member. The Fusion had some issues but the company stood by their product and did a great job of making it right and also upgraded a couple of things for me while they had it (Fusion is run by Bob Serva of pre-CZ DW fame). Now it is absolutely my favorite carry gun - ideal size and weight, super accurate and an incredible trigger. It's the perfect off duty compliment to the SW1911 9mm Pro Series that I carry for work.

Thanks guys. All things considered, would you lean towards one of the original Colt CCO's or one of the new DW bobbed CCO's? Both in equal shape, with the DW probably costing almost a Glock more. I wouldn't expect to need to do anything to the DW, but I'm not sure if the Colt would need any tweaking.
Also, I assume the internals Iggy mentioned are non-MIM. Anybody know about the original Colt CCO internals?

Given a choice I'd by a Colt because it's the original and they aren't making any more.

Baer also makes the Stinger, and Wilson Combat makes the CQB compact. Both CCO style guns.

I have a experimental Gunsite model CCO made up for the director of Colt marketing. It's my favorite .45 acp carry gun it's a little snappy to shoot 230 gr. ball but 185gr. or 200 gr. LWC's are not bad. I got this one for $1000.00 . P/S it came with 6 Wilson mag's it also letter's from Colt as being a prototype the only thing that is not mentioned in the letter is the front sight as they put a differant site on the production model's I do know the man and he did confirm that is the original front sight that he had the gun built with.

Two very fine CCO's there gentlemen. Surprisingly, the one I was looking at when I started this thread is still at the shop. I keep kicking it around, but have run across a couple of deals on revolvers lately that I couldn't pass up. Maybe one day.

I’m pretty sure the only reason Colt isn’t making a CCO model is because they can hardly keep up with demand for any of their models. That being said, I can’t fathom why they are trying to push a DAO model when Para Ord has dropped most of them from their lineup. The mark up that dealers are getting away with on even stock 1991A1’s is proof that there is still a monster demand for them and the internals are very top notch even with the series 80 parts and cast MIM parts. For what it sounds like you are looking for I think you would be happy with either a new Defender or a Commander. If I can find a set of slim grips that are cut to accept the ambi safety than my Commander came with then that will be the only modification I will ever need to make for that gun. So far the Alumigrips that I favor aren’t cut right nor are the Gatorback’s. Personally I think cutting the bottom of the Commander frame that amount that drops the magazine to the Officer’s model mags is less of a CCW good thing than if they would offer a Bobtail styled model on the Commander. I get the feeling that there is a patent on that offering that everyone is having to pay someone to carry that option and Colt just doesn’t like that. But that is just IMHO.
