H&R Premier 32 S&W CTGE Question

I have a S&W 32 revolver. I'm wondering about the date it was manufactured and possible value. The top of the barrel reads

Harrington and Richardson Arms Company
Worcester MA. USA Pat. Apr. 2.95 Apr. 7.96

Serial # 112XXX
the left side of barrel reads, Premier 32 S&W CTGE

Its the 4" barrel 5 shot. Its also blued. I would have to say its in fair condition. The back of the grip is broken and it is pitted a bit. I'm not worried about value as much as knowing how old it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Welcome to the Forum. Can you post a picture of your revolver? It's not a Smith & Wesson, of course, but a revolver made by Harrington & Richardson, an old line gun maker, bought out by Marlin in 2000. Is your gun a top break type, or side swing cylinder? H&R Arms Co. made millions of inexpensive firearms for over 125 years and quality was fair value for the money they cost, however they are not rare and prices for most handguns seldom exceed $250, or so. They used the name "Premier" on several models. Ed
 
I forgot to mention its a breach loader. Here's a couple of pics. Found a couple on another sight and they were saying it was a s
Smith and Wesson. I thought it made sense because the marking on the side of the barrel. Glad I found this sight.

My best guess is it was manufactured between 1916 and 1941. With the caliber marking on the barrel it is designed for smokless powder. The oversized grips and longer barrel are pluses.
 
If those are pics of your gun, that's a longer barrel than a 4 inch! The "Premier" was made with 4,5, & 6 inch barrels. Ed.

You have a small frame auto ejecting 2nd Model Harrington & Richardson PREMIER 2nd Variation and it was made between 1906 and 1908. This Model/Variation was offered with 2" (Bicycle Model), 3" (standard), 4", 5" or 6" barrels, Nickel plated (standard) or blued finish, 7x.22short or long or 5x.32 S&W chambering. It was made to handle smokeless powder loadings. If safe to fire, it will handle any modern factory loaded .32 S&W cartridges (the shorter one). Yours is equipped with the optional "TARGET" grips. It looks to be in "good" condition and it would sell at RETAIL between $150 to $200. The scarce 4" barrel and the optional large, wrap around grips add some collector interest to it, adding may $25+ to the selling price to a collector (of which there are currently few but a growing number).
Blued finish also adds some value as the vast majority are found today in Nickel finish.
Nice, uncommon, piece you have there.

Wow 32 Magnum. That's amazing news. I haven't fired it.I think my next step is to have it checked out by a gunsmith to see if its possible. I would love to try it out . Not planing on selling but the info is real helpful. Thank you so much.

I measured the barrel before i posted to make sure. I just measured it again and it is a 4 "

I always thought it curious that IJ and H&R went smokless before S&W.

32Magnum, first let me say thanks for your service, and thanks for the information on the H&R Premier. I noticed your Octafoil; my father served in the 9th during WWII. Here's a photo that I brought back from a recent trip to Germany that shows just a little bit of the respect and recognition that you guys deserve:

Also, here's a 22 LR Premier that I picked up a few years ago; kind of a cute little thing, but it's a bit loose and I've never had the courage to shoot it:

I have a pic dated abt 1910 of what I think is a top break revolver, wondering if anyone would be willing to take a look and give me an opinion. My great grandpa is holding the gun in the pic and I would like to buy one like it...if I can figure out what it is.

i have a harrington and richardson 38 top load, self ejecting, s & w cgte, revolver that i know nothing about. the s & w cgte is on the side of the barrel while the harrington and richardson arms company worcester mass is on top of the barrel. pat may 14 & aug 6,'89 april 2,'95 april 2,-96

I have attached a photo of my 32 that is very similar to this. I was wondering if you have more info. It says Harrington Richardson Arms Company, Worcester Mass USA Pat Apr 2 95 Apr 7 96 on the top of the barrel. On the side it says 32 CAL S & W CTGF on the ejector and on the drum there is a 450.

I own the only 22 LR nickel Premier I've ever seen. It has a 6" barrel and walnut target stocks. My late great-uncle bought it new at Elkader Hardware in 1926. It's been fired very little, but works perfectly with standard velocity ammo.

The last time I checked it was worth about $150 to $200.
