Air Rifle or Pistol Rec....
Saw a woodpecker doing some damage to my house today. I scared him away, but he came right back...I scared him away again, and I heard him banging on the opposite side of the house 5 minutes later.
I went out to Wal-Mart and bought a Crossman Pumpmaster (I think that was the name)...hey, over 14,000,000 sold!
So, will that do the job or should I have bought something else? I am not sure how accurate it will be for my purposes since I may only get one opportunity. I wanted something that I could adjust the power on since I did not want it to damage the wood siding too much if I miss, and I do not want it to go through a window 2 houses away.
I have the S&W air pistol that looks like the Model 41 in .177 but I am not sure what box it is in after moving. I was deadly with that thing when I was 10-14 years old.
Thanks....

When we lived in FL, my wife took care of a woodpecker problem with a Daisy 717 air pistol. It allowed her to dispatch the buggers without over- penetration.

Check the inside walls where the pecker is peckin. I'll bet there is a clock or motor that he hears and is trying to get to thinking it is bugs. From the peckers standpoint, he is protected so don't get caught by your neighborhood busy-body or conservation officer.

Have you considered using on of those air horns the loud noise might scare off the woodpecker.

Had some pigeon trouble a few years ago.Plinked some with a crosman pellet rifle.Tried a super soaker at one point and they quit coming back.Seemed like the squirt gun was more effective.

Those are good points too...maybe I will grab an Air Horn/Blaster first....then a hose. I would hate to shoot it.

Maybe, just maybe, not a clock (I would look for one), but the little fella's telling you where the bugs are. Bet they would do more damage than the woodpecker.
OTOH, in my old neighborhood there was a house with an old tin chimney for the propane stove. Darned woodpecker was convinced there was something yummy inside. Every morning, wham, wham, wham. Part of living, I guess.

This should be the ultimate air gun for this purpose:

Unfortunately, killing woodpeckers is quite illegal - they are protected under federal law.

The Crosman 760 Pumpmaster has plenty of power to dispatch small to medium sized birds at close range. The 760 has a solid steel rifled barrel and as long as you use pellets and not BBs you should be able to hit the target reliably out to about 50 feet. I used a 760 in my youth to hunt rats at the dump. A good hit killed them quickly. When I got older I picked up a more adult sized pump air rifle, the Sheridan Silver Streak 5mm/.20cal. While I have owned break barrel springers and Co2 gas guns I have a fondness for the American made pumpers.

That one is a bit expensive, the Russian Drozd is Half the price and pretty accurate with .177 lead balls.
