I just picked up from a friend a 100 year old Savage 1911 bolt action .22 short, for $25.00. It is a tube fed thru the butt end of the center of the stock. The stock somewhere in its life got cracked around the area of the trigger guard. It was repaired using a 1/2" wide brass strap screwed into the stock holding the break together. The repair is not new at all and was done a long long time ago, as the screws are brass and look very old. Whoever repaired it did a really great job, it gives it a bit of a classic look, one of a kind. Does anyone have any info on this old rifle, it was made only 2 years (1911-1912). I would be interested in getting some sort of breakdown manual for it or a copy of one someone has, or where I could find one. I would like to take it apart and give it a good cleaning. It has the center release screw underneath in front of the triggerguard to pull the stock. But I don't want to do this in case things fall apart and I would not have a clue as to where things go. I loosened the screw and the tube feed rod is there and I stopped as things looked like they were ready to fall out. The bolt action and the ejector work just fine and he said that it shoots great. It has set so long that it is really dirty. The rifling and barrel are really clean and the bluing isn't too bad. If anyone has any info on this neat old rifle I would appreciate hearing from you.
