I have been shooting sporting clays on and off for the last few years. My wife comes for a walk in the woods with me but does not shoot. She is expressing an interest in it but will not shoot the 12 gauge. She is 5'2" and under 120# so it will beat her up. Even a friends 20gauge o/u in a bit much for her. Ive been looking for a 28 gauge for her to use and me to play with. The "B" brands are expensive used $1200 and up more often $1500 and up. They do have a NIB Mossberg Silver Reserve for around $600 OTD. I know its made in Turkey, some folks seem to have bad luck with these, but most of the post are pretty old. I also read that the newer ones have improved in quality.

This gun will be used a few times a year.

If I could get a decent used gun for a grand or so I would do it. They are more money and hard to find.

Anyone have experience with these critters?

Not much good to say about that gun. Once in a while, though not often anymore, someone shows up with one. Triggers break pretty often and, absent a gunsmith, you have to send it to Mossberg.

They are better for hunting where only a few rounds are shot.

A better choice might be an 1100 in 28ga.

My wife shoots a 12 for trap, but the gun is fitted to her and she shot 200 rounds today with absolutely no ill effects and will shoot another 100 tomorrow. When a gun is fitted to the person, most don't notice the recoil. But, with an adjustable comb, adjustable pad and the fitting, you are into about $400.

A used 1100 is 5-750.

Have you looked at any of the CZ line? There are several CZ models that are below $1000 for an O/U and they are well respected. Made in Turkey but very reliable and solid. I have one in a 20 ga, and several friends have 20's and 12, but I understand theyare available in 28 and .410 also.
