Ruger SR 1911
Just read an article about this handgun. Does anyone out there have any firsthand info before I consider this purchase?

SR 1911
Just holding 1, there is nothing special. Someone who owns 1 will be along soon with real data.

If you like ---You Tube----, Hickok45 has a nice review on the Ruger 1911. I know they have cast frames.

Ruger seems to want a piece of every market in the industry. I have no experience with their 1911. According to their WS, MSRP is $800. What is street price? If the only model available came with the contrasting (blue) parts, that would cause me to give it a pass. I don't like the extended slide release, hammer, or "beavertail" also. If the slide is "laser etched" I wouldn't touch it.

My LGS had one a couple of months ago. I passed on it and have regretted it ever since. It looked very well made and I liked the features. I have told the LGS I want the next one!
Rolan Kraps who posts here and also on the Sig forum has one and he has been very complimentary towards it.

I think it looks like a winner-a no frills (for the most part) plain Jane series 70 style 1911. Couple that with the reasonable(comparatively speaking) price and Ruger's customer service and it looks like a no brainer to me. If I didn't already have my S&W 1911, I would buy one of these. The only thing that I don't like is no amphibious safety.

I guess they are having trouble making a semi- or pump shotgun with an investment cast receiver because it seems to me they are missing out on some serious sales in those niches.

http://www****ger.com/casting/PDF/PineTreeCastings.pdf
If I recall correctly Pine Tree makes LOTS of things. I can not find a definitive list but believe that Caspian frames and some Freedom Arms are made by them. I don't know what the aversion to "cast" is? Like MIM parts, the new technology is very good and in some ways might be better.
As to the 1911, there are several looong threads here on the pistol, the search function may reveal them.

Absolutely agree. Greater precision and tighter tolerances are among the reasons these production methods have been adopted by many manufacturers. If these methods also result in a less expensive means of production, so much the better for the consumer.

I picked one up about 6 months ago and after a short break-in (100-200 rnds) have been very satisfied - no problems at all. Here's a link to some comments and pictures I posted back then:

Saw a dealer listing a couple last week on GB starting at $715 with a BIN price of $725 with $15 shipping. Best price I've seen. BIN got 'em both after only a few hours.

They are very hard to find around here. I can't say I've been in every gun shop in the DFW area, but I've been to quite a few...and most don't have them. If they do get one in, it usually sells the same day, and usually at or close to MSRP. I was in a gun shop yesterday, and they had one in the case marked $719...and as I was looking at it through the glass, the salesman took it out. I asked him if it was sold, and he said yes, someone had just called and put a deposit on it. He said they'd had it about an hour.
I think it is a great pistol even at full price. With the current demand, I don't think the price will come down to "Ruger norm" for quite a while. There are some who say they can find them cheaper in their locations...but for some reason, most guns sell for higher prices here than they do in some parts of the country. Anyway, I'm glad I have mine...even at MSRP.

Ruger Sr1911
I bought one of these a few months ago for $725----I also bout a S&W ProSeries 1911 at about the same time----it costs about $1100.
The Sr1911 has one advantage in that its rear sight is fully adjustable with hex key and screwdriver---I find both guns are excellent and great precision in manufacturing--have about 250 rounds through each--and never had any malfunctions
To be honest the SR1911 is the S&W Pro 1911 at $400 less---I can't find a hill of beans difference beween them and I have 45 years of shooting experience 23 in the USMC

Got one about a month ago. The noticeable difference from SW1911 - Ruger doesn't have front stippling and has classic extractor IIRC S&W has external. I love mine

I have a Ruger 1911 SS Commander, with about 500 trouble free rounds through it. For the price you cannot beat it. The trigger on mine was very good and broke at an even 4 pounds. Fit and finish was excellent, and the gun is accurate. It has everything necessary on a modern 1911 and no unnecessary frills. It does not have the awful series 80 trigger block safety, it is a traditional design.

The most reliable 1911 I own! Bought one new in September of 2012 for 596.00 and have over 4000 rounds through it without a hitch! I cant say that for my Colt 80 series. Very accurate too.

I was trying to get one since they came out. Not easy in the Free States and especially hard in Kalifornistan.
Finally got one late last year through a forum member and it is everything I imagined. Excellent gun.

Odd that these old Ruger 1911 threads are showing up. I DID get the 2nd one that my LGS got it and I have no complaints. It is a very good 1911 and well worth the money.

Must be nice. There are none to be had here in my neck of the woods. I have been looking too! Just got back from the local gun show and didn't see one there.

Had the Commander in my hand a few weeks ago, had to drag my rear out of the shop, just couldn't justify another $699.00 for a barrel that is .75" smaller.
At the time of my original purchase for the full size SR1911, if they also had the Commander I would have purchased that instead.

Do they have the "Please read the owners manual......." etched on the slide or frame?

The safety stuff is in very small print and on the bottom of the dust cover, so pretty invisible unless you are looking for it. It could easily be polished off.

I have a recently purchased SR1911 Commander.
Only fired about 50 rounds out of if. If functioned fine. I had a few failures to feed but I think it was the bullet (200 gran lead semi-wadcutter) and not the gun.
I like it immensely. It has features only necessary to make it a serious "combat" type semi-auto and no extra frills.
I did swap out the flat mainspring housing for an arched one.
Most of all it is a well built handgun that is backed by a company that will fix any problem without guff.

I bought one a couple of months ago - $645 OTD. I've only put 200 rounds through it but have experienced no problems whatsoever. The gun comes with, what I think, are the most sensible mods one used to pay extra for on a 1911 style gun. The accuracy is on par with a couple of custom 1911s I've shot - which both cost a lot more money. I've always wanted to own a Ruger - they're reputed to be accurate and reliable, but I've held back for aesthetic reasons. Now they've got a good designer on board, I'm happy to own one.

When I purchased my SR1911 in Jul last year they had to show me the SP101 4.20" 8 shot .22.
Seven days later it also accompanied me home.
It sure doesn't compare with a S&W in DA but really is a nice looking revolver.
