UK military switching to Glock pistols

Who the heck would have ever guessed that Hi Powers came out in the 60s.I'm thinking that old John was sand bagging big time? The stuff you learn on the S&W forum.

First, i doubt he would care. In his day he built "Glocks". His designs were much simpler and more reliable then what most other guys were coming out with. If he was alive today I believe he probably would have built a "Glock".

Second. Im surprised the Brits didnt do this earlier. Its much easier to keep Glocks going then the HP. You dont need a knowledgeable gun smith just an armorer. Nothing has to be tunned or hand fitted just plug n play. If a something brakes just grab the part of another.

Glocks will now be declared assault weapons. That will take care of them.

I'm as deep into Glock 9mms as I am with S&W revolvers and they continue to impress the heck out of me. Our own SOCOM units are now heavy Glock users as well. They're just tools however but very efficient tools.

I still do not know why the US did not go with a plastic 45 rather than the Colt 1911? Not try to start a war here, The 1911 is of course the greatest best most wonderful gun other than a pre lock blued SW revolver.;)

The Glock (not a fan but good gun), HK, SA XD, MP etc 45's all hold more ammo and would be more reliable in dirt, dust, rain mud etc. JMO I do not have Govt contracts.

I think the reason why the US did not go with a plastic 45 rather than the Colt 1911 is because back in 1911 plastic had not been invented yet.

I own a couple 45acp Glocks. They're the pistol equivalent to an AK47. I am always amazed how much abuse they can take and still function perfectly. Not pretty, feels like plastic, but you don't want to find yourself on the business end of one of these. They go bang every time.

Wise choice for the Brits. BTW, when I was active my last primary sidearm was a 1911 and we were not allowed to carry it with a round in the chamber. Nor could the MPs or anyone else that I know of armed with the 1911. Glocks are great guns, they are inexpensive to buy and maintain, as well as lightweight and easy to use. Also impervious to almost everything except acetone and really high heat.
