I recently acquired a iver Johnson break top revolver. Serial no.C750xx.The top of the barrel "iver Johnson's arms &cycle works-Fitchburg Mass USA.It has the owl on the grips facing away from the cylinder.on the bottom of the grip stamped Pat Aug 25 96& the rest worn off. It is a five shot cylinder and has a T type break top with a3 1/4 inch barrel.Slightly worn blueing but in really nice shape. My questions are what year and caliber is it.hopefully not black powder. And any additional info. Thanks in advance.Im not up to speed yet on posting pictures, sorry.
It's most likely chambered for .32 S&W or .38 S&W. Measure the bore diameter or compare it to a .38 Special or 9mm bullet. They were intended for black powder cartridges, but some people do shoot them with modern factory ammo (which is loaded to very low pressures). I wouldn't recommend shooting it.
I have one chambered in .32 S&W. It's fine for guarding my bologna, but I wouldn't trust it to save my bacon!
