John Wayne, Dean Martin, Rio Bravo -- Just my rifle, my pony, and me...cowboy dreams
I thought on this quiet friday night, overlooking the sun set, I'd play this song.
Should you know a good tune, Cowboy/Western, please share. I'll go first:
RIO BRAVO My Rifle, My Pony, and Me/Cindy - Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson and Walter Brennan (legendado) - YouTube
Have a comment on a Western movie, or otherwise, please share all that is the great "West".

Not a movie.......But, some purty good ol pictures.......
The Last Cowboy Song - YouTube
I some times camp near the crossing on the Red River, the western branch of the Ol Chisholm Trail
Boys,
It hadn't been to may years ago....Now sitting in my easy chair, I can still smell the hair burning at the brandin crew.
Sixty foot catch ropes and mabee an ol rawhide reata man dallyin a wild one up.
Or throwin the 'hulhan' to catch yer mount outta the remuda before daylite.
Humped up under an outlaw colt tacking on a set of shoes...
Forking a snaky bronc on a frosty morning...Jest scratchin and hookin',
pulling leather whilst he gets his pitchin and sunfishin out, before makin' the big circle.

My brother and I grew up thinking we would be cowboys. Bro stayed true to the trail. I had to move around for my company. When I left I gave my Bro my ropes, spurs and roping saddle. He bought a farm and kept horses, roped heading and healing, trail rides, did I mention roping. I have not been on a horse since 1985. Once we almost roped a deer, Bro missed and I was getting ready to toss the rope when it reached timber. Foolish boys we were.
Anytime I watch a western I am transported back to an old dream. I like listening to old school stuff like the Sons of the Pioneers and as mentioned the score from the Good The Bad and The Ugly.
Good thread OP. Thanks.

I remember when I was a kid maybe 4-5 years old, my family and I were going to vacation out west and stopped at Wall Drug in SD.
I remember just being in awe of the place and two cowboys came by and I was talking to them--thought their boots with spurs on was pretty neat and how they 'clanged' when they stepped on the wood walkway.
They asked my folks if I could walk with them on the walkway infront of em'. Each cowboy grabbed my hand and we walked down the wood sidewalk...clang, clang, clang,...and so on about 12 feet.
I remember how excited I was and for a moment felt like I was one of em' too. Good memory.

My wife and I visited Old Tucson where Rio Bravo and many other western films were shot many years ago. It was a thrill. But my most memorable western experience was in Tombstone. We were leaving the Crystal Palace just before sundown, walking down the middle of the street, when two re-enactors, gunfighters, came out of Big Nose Kates Saloon several yards away. They stepped out onto the street and faced us, then split up to either side of the street and slowly walked toward us with their thumbs hooked in their gunbelts. The only sound was the chink-chink of their spurs. I was transfixed. How many times had I seen this play out in film? And now I was the target! They just sneered as they passed by us. I was elated! My heart pounds every time I replay that memory in my mind. Then there was the first time I went to the Bird Cage Theatre, but that's another story...

The greatest Western album ever; Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs by Marty Robbins.
You can pick most any of the songs as a good'un, but this is my favorite
