I think I'll be trading into one this weekend.
I'd prefer it had a bird barrel, but it's in too good of shape to pass up for the trade.
As-is, it's got a 24" iron sighted smooth bore barrel.

I'd like to shoot some ducks with it.

Any input?

Anybody want to swap barrels with a bird barrel? ;)

Can you buy extra barrels for the shotgun from Browning?
I hunt turkeys with a 26" barrel 10ga. that shoots 3 1/2" mag shells, it reaches out to about 50 yds.

In my neck of the woods a 10 gauge would be more of a goose gun than a duck gun. A 12 gauge will be cheaper ammo wise, and a lot more pleasant to shoot. I've only been goose hunting 7 or 8 times and found my 3" 12 gauge shells worked fine.

I've had an Ithaca Roadblocker 10ga for a long time. :D

It really turns heads, and no, not mine. It's a pussycat. :)

I would suggest getting an extended magazine for your BPS and turn it into a "business" machine. I forget who makes them, but google is your friend.

10ga #00 buck has 18 pellets. :D
I don't know if you can still get #4 buck factory loaded- no one makes #BB lead, but in a 10, it's nasty on anything out to 60-70 yards or so.

I've had the 10 gauge Stalker version for years now with a 26 inch barrel and it's been great on ducks and geese. They're a heavy gun but do suck up the recoil well, you just don't want to carry one far.
I don't duck hunt anymore due to health reasons plus it's a young man's sport. I told my buddy he could have mine in very nice shape for $500-550, that sound about right for one?

Hold on a second here. I bought some 12 ga shells just a few months ago and had to pay $6.00+ for a box of 25. Ok, its how they're packed. Those 10 ga rounds are $53+ for 25. My fuzzy math tells me those things cost over $2 each! I'm thinkin' my Social Security isn't going up fast enough to support that kind of shooting habit! At gun shows I choke on seeing .30-06 for $20 a box of 20. Guess I'm just not ready for that kind of pricing on shotgun shells. Help.

24" is too long. I suspect you would need a 20" to have a decent magazine capacity in 10 gauge, but on a 12 I can't see any excuse for longer than 18". Too unwieldy, and when I tried skeet with mine, I could break birds to about 40 yards when I did my part. (VangComped, w/ghost ring; I couldn't hit for beans with a nice SxS.) If I were back on LE patrol I would stick with a 14", I think.

I could make use of a 10GA, I suppose, but I don't see myself being in a setting where it is useful enough, and something tells me that with slugs it kicks like a monster. Might be a good bear gun if you want to risk thread drift.

I have an SP 10 Remington auto that honestly does not kick as much as my 12 ga. Pump with 3 inch. It is up for sale on the guns for sale here.
