What's an old Ruger .22 pistol worth?

I take it this is a Mk I or MK II? Around here somewhere in the $300 range +/- $50 is about right. I thought long and hard about buying a decent looking Mk II with 3 mags for $275

Kentucy pricing info

I had one on my table several times in the last year.
Two magazines / box / owners manual - Priced at $250.

Did NOT sell - No REASONABLE offers.

No longer take it to the shows.
Decided to keep it.

Fishslayer, We're either joking or referring to trade in value at a LGS...

Sent from somewhere between the Ohio territory and the neutral zone.

Those are pretty well the family standard .22 pistols around here. I've paid from $59 for an abused but functional one to $160 for used ones, but the latter, a nice one, was almost ten years ago. Nowadays I would expect it to go for around $225-250, maybe a bit more. Around here the basic blued Standard Mark IIIs for for $340 OTD.

Personally I much prefer the earlier "Mark I" models as much simpler to operate. I would also think twice about getting rid of a nice early one as they tune up into great shooting pistols. The $59 one is still ugly in spite of rehab, but with a trigger job it shoots like a house afire. Outside of my Model 18 it goes shooting more than any other pistol I have.

The difference in prices from one area to another are amazing. On the Taurus forum I had a guy from Ohio tell me that a late 90's model 605 in .357 - similar to a blued lat 90's model 60 in .357 - is worth under $200 in his area. Around here $200 will get you a Jiminez or Jennings 22...

Me too!. List it on the Ruger forum at $200-$300 and it will sell before you press submit.

Keep in mind that there are at least two Ruger boards.

I'd be surprised to see one for sale at a show or in a gun store for much under $200. And it could go for $300.

Don't sell. If your other one is an anniversary model, are you shooting it? Better keep this one for a shooter.

I've owned several standards and several Bull BBL Rugers, great 22's.

I would think $250-300 That was the going price used in St. Louis before I retired last fall.

If you want to sell it someone suggested this forum. Sounds like you might do better here. Dealers buy low. I don't know how FTF sales works in CNY or if they are verbotin..

I've also got a NIB 50th Anniversary Edition of the same gun. So the older one is sort of a duplicate. I much prefer S&W .22 revolvers, but I see your point. Might not be worth selling.

I just paid $400.00 for an unfired MK II, 50th anniversary model, with box and papers. The dealer was asking $450.00.

If I was only going to keep one handgun, it would probably be a Ruger Standard 22 automatic, 4" barrel, fixed sights.

If you'e looking for a national average, you may want to look at active auctions on a well-known web site. Several MKII's with bids. They're in the $250 - $350 range and still have time to go. It looks like some of nice ones in the box will bring ~ $400.

It does not say Mk I or Mk II anywhere on it. I've been told that this is simply called a Ruger Standard Automatic Pistol. I guess this would be the forerunner of the Mk I/Mk II?

I have no idea what the difference would be, other than markings.

If anybody wants to edumacate me on these things, please do! :D

I just posted this in a separate Ruger .22 thread, but here goes...

I wrote an article about Ruger .22's that appeared in the Nov/Dec 1980 American Handgunner. I talked extensively with Ruger officials and others in researching it. I was told that the Ruger Std. model was not marked with any Mark label. It was just the Std. one, the MK I being the Target version, with adj. sights.

But when the MK II appeared, I think they then began marking even std. models with the MK II labeling, to distnguish them from the earlier type.

I think it's available Online, but I'm not sure where. And some members have collections of the magazine that go back that far.

I thought you meant Nov/Dec 2013....now I see you edited your post! 1980!

I was seriously going to look for that at the super-market tonight. :)
