Call me crazy, but I would think the M&P/Model 10 or 1911 would have the highest overall production numbers, they went through quite a few wars and were the mainstays of almost every Police Dept.

Exactly!!
Dang! I didn't even come close. Like Smith357, I would've thought we would've seen the Model 10 and the 1911 in there somewhere. And what about some of the classic Colt double-actions like the Python? And nobody even mentioned the Model 1873!
Oh well, just goes to show from the looks of most of the current top 10 that plastic is here to stay.

The Kimber is the one that really surprised me.
The other mostly plastic mass smashers Don't come as that much of a surprise.

That was not a list of most popular guns. It was a list of which plant turned the most guns of their model(s) and probably based on taxes paid. Ivan

It's a list based on production, but it shows some; P89, MkII, 44 Mag without the IL, that are no longer in production. For Ruger it should show an LCP. No 1911's...
The only one on the list I would want is the S&W .44.

These media outlet websites force you to do that so they can show increased website engagement/clicks. This way they can show advertisers their increased ''views/clicks' and justify their ad rates. They could just lay it out on one page, but they would not get the clicks. They also measure how many comments are created by users, and how many likes/dislikes, too. It all ads up to a factor to drive ad rates for advertisers. Honestly, the "news" only exists to drive advertising revenue. (Period). People that believe otherwise are extremely naive. Many sites will also pop a new ad(s) each time you click through to the next picture, or item on a list.
So, this is why there are so many headlines/'articles' featured with 'Top 10 Best places for Whatever,' Top XX Things Your Doctor/Mechanic/ Financial Planner/Lawyer/Wife/Whomever Should Tell You... Top XX Destinations, Cars, Schools, Places to Retire, Best Beaches, Best/worst Hollywood Plastic Surgeries, Best Bikini Bodies, etc. You get the idea, there are literally a million of these grabbers out there, all designed to drive revenue, and it annoys the heck out of me.
Yes, I could be interested, but just list the darn items, don't insult me with having to click through; I refuse to do it anymore. Rant over; peace.
Oh, and is anyone surprised that a Glock would be on this list...?

It was based on production numbers by company, not model, for 2011.
The 1911 was represented by the Kimber.
The model 29 was not #2, S&W was the #2 manufacturer.

After all we read about Glock being "America's Gun", it surprises me to see it so far down the list. No surprise to see Ruger and S&W at the top, though.

You can always learn something new. I didn't know Taurus was manufacturing in the US, nor the parent companies of Kahr and Hi-Point (not that I'll ever need that information).

Funny how times change, only own one example on the list, S&W 29,
three of them and all pre 1980. Have no desire or interest in owning anything else on that list.

Having owned (note past tense) three of them, I'd say they are NOT 1911s...they are (insert words I can't type here.)

Kahr makes guns in New York, although they are preparing a move to Pennsylvania.

I think the only gun that Taurus "makes" in the US is the 738...and even then, I wonder how much of it is "made" here versus assembled here from imported materials.

I always knew Ruger produced the best semi-auto... Hi-point should have been #2 though...
