I have been a fan of Savage rifles for about 32 years as my son Glenn and I bought a Savage Model 110 in 30-06 for his Brother Jim for his 16 birthday. I found it at a local gun store and it had been used on a guided Elk hunt and the right side of the stock from the bolt back was beat up. I asked the guy what happened to it and he said the guy did a hunt on horse back and that part of the stock was outside the rifle holder on the horse and took a beating.
The metal was almost perfect and the gun was for sale cheap so I bought it and took it to the Colorado School of Trades a gun smith school and dropped it off and they refinished the stock and glass bedded the action. I mounted a Redfield 3x9 x40mm scope on it and he zeroed it and he has killed more game than anyone in our hunting camp all these years. I have given him other rifles like a H&R 300 Ultra rifle with FN Mauser action in 270 and a Ruger Model 77 300 Win mag but he always shows up with the Savage 110 30-06 and kills more game than the rest of us.
So two years ago I decided to buy a couple of Savage rifles and I settled on the Model 14 and 114 American version with the wood stock. I bought a 308 and a 270 and I have been extremely pleased with these rifles and I bought them both for $550 each. They are accurate and beautiful and I really like them.
