Ruger LC9s- competition for Shield?
The new striker fired version of the LC9, the LC9s that Ruger announced today looks interesting. Biggest feature is apparently a much better trigger than the LC9 has. Looks like it might give the Shield some competition.

I'm sure the gun media will let us know in due course. If they have comparable triggers then it comes down to how comfortable the grip feel and price, I suppose.

I saw the detail sheet...the new LC9S doesn't have the LCI. It still has the mag disconnect, though...which is a negative for me. Now, if it can be removed as easily as can be done on the SR9/40/45 series of pistols, that's not a problem...but I don't know if that's the case.
It still has the safety, which doesn't bother me...and as far as I can tell, it doesn't have the lock.

The Remington R51 was supposed to be the next big little 9, great field and bench reviews, then it went into production, then they took it out of production.
If it's a stone reliable gun, Ruger will have another Barn Burner on their hands.

The Walther PPS fit my hand better than the LC9 or the Shield. No magazine disconnect, no safety button, and very accurate. The multiple size magazines are a real plus too.
I agree with Fast-Eddie, if it is reliable, the new little Ruger will be a hit. Ed

Ruger has a hitory of copying other manufacturers' successful designs. The original LC9 was produced to jump into Kel-Tec's subcompact DAO pistol market (as they copied the P3AT to make their LCP). Now that the Shield has been such a hot item for the last 2 Years, they see the need to copy the Shield's success.
There are die-hard Ruger fans that stand behind the original LC9, even with its incredibly long and heavy trigger pull. Now that it's being released with a striker fire system, those same Ruger advocates will be claiming that it's better than the Shield.
IIRC, along with the mag disconnect and thumb safety, the original LC9 does have an internal lock, if so, the new LC9s will also have it.

The original LC9 does indeed have a lock. Not sure if the LC9S does...I couldn't really tell from the pictures, but it wasn't listed in the detail sheet, so I'm wondering if the lock was omitted in this model. The LC9S is not California compliant, but that could be because of not having a LCI.

I own an LC9 and for all it's shortcomings, it's stone reliable. If I were to pick up a small striker fired pistol, it would be a shield. Gen 1 pistols almost always have issues and that " gotta have it because it's new" price tag.

I believe Grag-a-Gun has gotten some.
They're in your area, but I don't know if they have an actual Store, or if they're just Web Based.

I would say so. I owned an LC9 but hated the trigger. Bought a Shield but didn't like the tiny hard to operate safety so I sold it. The LC9 has a mag disconnect, a more positive safety, and with the safety on you can't rack the slide. I like these features in a carry gun. I have no doubt I will be getting the new LC9-S

I played with the LC9s at a local dealer Friday. It has an amazing trigger. It's going to be a big seller. I'd like to see a striker fired trigger on a LCP.

They do the majority of their business online - but they do have a small retail store front.
Thanks for the heads up on them having the LC9.
I noticed that "Cheaper Than Dirt" has them online for $325.

I held one and the trigger is an incredible improvement . I already have a 9mm CCW weapon I am happy with, but if Ruger does the same upgrade to the LC380, I'll buy one.

Checked the LC9s out at the range a few days ago.
Ruger has another winner on their hands.

I believe it's the end of the LC9. I can't see Ruger continuing production with the introduction of the S model. And yes the trigger pull is amazing!

Obviously the LC9s trigger is better, but How Does The Recoil Compare???
If the recoil is still as stout as the original LC9, the Shield, with it's Extremely light recoil would still a better option. (IMO)

I shot it back to back with my Shield and thought the LC9s had more felt recoil, not a huge deal but noticeable. All and all nice gun it was brand new and 7-8 mags were fired with no issues.

I've handled two now, and I concur. I get NO disruption of the sight picture, and no sproing nor twang as with dry-firing a Shield. If it were in stainless steel, blackened as it is, I'd be on it.

Got to love capitalism. The LC9s Pro-- good trigger, no safeties.

Good question, but the answer is none of the above. It's a pre-set striker, thus the LC9s. The LC9 is a pre-set hybrid in the sense that once it is preset, it acts like a DAO, like the new hammer less revolvers.
Pre-set strikers and hammers apply only to semi-automatic handguns. Upon firing a cartridge or loading the chamber, the hammer or striker will rest in a partially cocked position.
The trigger serves the function of completing the cocking cycle and then releasing the striker or hammer. While technically two actions, it differs from a double-action trigger in that the trigger is not capable of fully cocking the striker or hammer.
It differs from single-action in that if the striker or hammer were to release, it would generally not be capable of igniting the primer.
Speaking of which, I'm inclined to give FNH's new striker fired entry into the compact market a try the FNS9c. Having the FNX .45 and the full sized FNS9 and being quite pleased with both, I'm contemplating either the 9 or the .40.
In the post script, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I can shoot 6" groups at 20 yards with my LC9 just fine. It's a great deep conceal pistol. Improvements have been made in the market for sure, but I'm not planning to put the little monster out to pasture just yet.

Bought a LC9S the other day, one time dry firing and that gun sold its self.
I bought the non pro version because there is no way in gods green heaven I'd pocket carry this thing with no safety, the trigger is that good.
Recoil is stout but that is because the gun is so light. Not really a issue IMO
Steel sights and metal trigger spells quality construction.
Shot to point of aim, excellent trigger is the main reason I suspect.
Can't say enough about this gun....I like it a lot.
