I shot one of these many years ago and I have always wanted one. The gun was traded into the LGS I work at and I said I have to grab that. 1985 US assembled P7, 5 magazines, box, papers and all cleaning and takedown tools. I added the nill grips as I bought them from a customer that did not like them. I know it is not an S&W but I don't stray to often. Any pros or cons on them would be helpful. I bought it for $1800

I like the grips. That is a stack of cash, I remember when they first came out, everybody had to have one, except me I stayed with my 1911's. Ivan

That is the last one I need to finish out my p7 collection! You did great. There is nothing but pros as far as I am concerned. You will either fall in the love it camp or hate it camp as there doesn't seem to be a middle ground. It is a bit heavy on the squeeze cocker but after that the trigger is butter! If you can learn to shoot it it is one of the most accurate semi autos ever made.

PS: If you decide you hate it let me know as I have a nice lnib 66-4 f comp waiting for you in trade!

How much? That will go a long way to determining if you should buy it. They are awesome weapons . . . (deleted)

Unless I am totally misinterpreting the content of your post, the date code on your pistol, from the left side of the slide, is IF, which means a 1985 production date, not that you paid $1,985 for the pistol . . . ?

I give up. You keep editing the original post instead of replying. $1,800 is an excellent price. I've seen them go much higher. Hope you kept the original grips.

Yes Muss It is a 1985 birthdate and I paid $1800.00, sorry for the confusion. I do have the original grips box tools everything.

Thanks Pete

Beautiful Pete -

I still have an P7M8 - I had them all at one point but didn't care for some versions -

P7M13 - Too big for my little mits - Sold it for 2700.00

P7K3 - Nice gun but sold it for 2500.00!!!

PSP - Sold that for a princely sum too!

The P7 series is drop dead sexy gun - But not for high rate of firing - It would heat up to quick - Accurate though -

Enjoy it!

It's a neat gun, and very accurate. It was our issued weapon for 17 years. My advice: use the scraper after every range session, and be aware that after a couple of mags it gets hot. Really, really hot. We carried the M8s, but I always wanted the M13. I picked this one up this summer, also for $1800. It was a former police gun, so it has some wear. Besides the box and 3 mags, it came with leather, armorers manuals & a bag of spare parts. Enjoy your purchase.

You will love it.Most accurate 9mm I ever shot.Sold
My first one while I was divorced and needed money for kids. When I retired from previous job.I got myself one for a gift to myself. Traded a colt SP1 and 2 hundred and smiled al the way home.

I carried one for 21 years while on the force. In all that time never had an issue with it, considering all the low bid cheap reloads we used at the range. As mentioned several times above, when qualifying with just 50 rounds, no problem. But when qualifying with 100 rounds, it got hot.

Beautiful pistol! I shot a .45 ACP chambered prototype back in the mid 80's. I was always fascinated with the squeeze cock design, but the pistols always seemed awfully heavy and were pricey. As a reloader, I didn't like the recommendation for not using lead bullets, as they would clog up the gas system.

When I learned you didn't need a death grip on the cocking mechanism, it became one of favorite shooters. Very accurate. Kinda heavy. It does get hot with a lot of rapid-fire shooting. A lot of what I've read says to not clean the gas mechanism too much. Being a little dirty supposedly helps the functioning of the pistol. It's an engineering masterpiece. Enjoy it.

Nyeti:

Thank you for posting your very excellent articles on the P7. Many of my long-standing questions were answered, and you also provided some excellent advice. The P7 was on my grail gun list for probably close to 30 years until I was finally able to buy a former German Police PSP at at good price a few years ago. I carry it in a Bianchi Askins Avenger holster, and can easily forget it's on my belt. I used it to qualify, and later, requalify for my CHL just to vex the rangemaster (it did - neither of them had ever seen a P7). It is a wonderful handgun, and I consider it to be the modern equivalent of the P-08 Luger - in itself, a marvel of engineering.

Sodacan:

Shortly after I purchased my PSP, I was shooting it at a local gun range. I had a nice, tight group, but my shots were all to the right of the "X" ring. Luckily, one of the range staff had carried a P7 (M8) as a LEO, and he told me to relax the old Vulcan death grip on the squeeze cocker. Once I learned to dial the force down, like magic, all of my shots were tearing out the center of the target.

Regards,

Dave
