Arik has it -

They couldn't ban "Guns" so they banned "features" -

Oh I assure you they are serious - Seriously stupid!

Well, I'm back. I've since done some work with the new SAR-1. There were a few parts I was planning on re-bluing late last week but never got around to it. That's why they look polished and shiny. I have to admit the look is actually growing on my, if my perma blue doesn't get here soon I might end up just leaving it!

I also installed my Tech Sights. Now the rear sight block was crooked when I got the rifle which was originally the reason I purchased the tech sights. But now I have to say I REALLY like them. Not only is the sight picture vastly improved (not to mention much more like the AR sight picture which I am very comfortable with) but I think it looks awesome! I am off to the range tomorrow morning to try it out along with my new CZ P-07 Duty. It's going to be a great day!

Your pics are way to dark to tell but is that sight on the dust cover or on a rail above the dust cover?

If you just have it on the dust cover you'll most likely be very disappointed. It isn't ment to be anything but to keep debris out so there is hardly any retention for zero. If the dust cover is on tight it will loosen up with shooting and cleaning. It can even shift a little by bumping it against something. Either way it's not ment to hold any kind of a aiming device

No, the sights are actually quite solid due to the design. The Sight is a solid metal piece that replaces the original rear recoil spring guide and actually attaches via the "T" slot used by the original recoil spring guide assembly.

Then, a new dust cover included with the sights is installed by depressing the two spring loaded retaining pins on each side of the rear sight, and sliding the dust cover holes over the pins to lock the cover in place.

And I really like them! I was just messing around today but the top group is 20 rounds of Tula SP ammo from 35ish yards, and on the shoot-n-see target is 5 rounds rapid fire at 50 yards. The sight picture is great, they zeroed easily, and I'm very impressed overall.

There are so many AK / SKS haters out there. All they have to do is to shoot one. Then the next words I hear is how much $$? And we're do I get one? Funny? I keep an open mind when it comes to guns. I like all guns.
When certain guns get banned you know there fun to shoot. Folding stocks, threaded muzzles with flashiders, large capacity mags, pistol grip stocks, anything AK Is banned here.
Funny they don't know much about guns. Some semi autos have detachable mags but the mags don't interchange with each other. They use one mag to the gun and reload with stripper clips. Funny that each rifle, same exact model the mags don't interchange. When I seen the stripper clip groove with a detachable mag I found this out. I tried all six guns and seen the mags didn't interchange. Food for thought on some surplus military semi autos.(Egyptian hakim 8mm)

Ok. Pics are better this time. In the others it looks like the sights were welded onto the top cover, which is an option out there, just not a very good one

I lube my sagas with moly. It makes the action so much smoother it feels like a more expensive gun. Plus it cycles smoother and faster.

The Red Army Standard Elite ammo I ordered arrived. Now I really need an AK-47 or AK-M. I'm looking at the 7.62 x 39 cartridge and thinking .300 Blackou...what? LOL

Sporticus, can you PM me a link to wherever you got that rear tech sight?

This thread is evil.

I put a Blackheart International AK63D Hungarian variant on order.

I'm not fond of the blond wood furniture. I'll have to refinish it.

I had no idea they are supposed to be blonde. If that's the way it's supposed to be, then I'm not going to mess with it. I don't like screwing with something that is correct out of the box.

Over the years, I've developed a friendship with the proprietor of the LGS. He did some digging into DDI via a contact at Circle10. The DDI AK-47U's quality is dependent on whether or not old Waffen Werks parts were used or not. When you get a good one, it's good. When one is off, it's way off. He pulled out his own personal Blackheart from the safe for me to inspect. While he'd order me whatever I wanted, he highly recommended the Blackheart from first-hand experience. I put some trust and faith in my friend.

Is it wrong that I'm now thinking of what AK-47 to buy next? Now that an under-folder is on the way in, I want a fixed stock model.

Yes those specific Hungarians are blonde. There is the AMD which is Black although certain variations were blonde as well.

You can change it to whatever you want

Nope not wrong as long as you don't expect to bench it and get laser like precision. as long as you are good with battlefield accuracy.

I'm not a fan of underfolders. Feels weird, but some people like them. The best is Russian 100 series folder. It's a fixed style polymer stock that folds. The worst are probably the Hungarian AMD and Romanian/Polish/E. German wire folders. While they feel better then a underfolder in your shoulder the cheek weld is none existent

Finally, here it is.

Build quality is very nice, no boogered rivets. My only disappointment is with the furniture. The two previous examples I saw at my LGS had perfect furniture. Bad luck of the draw for me. The pictures make it look better than it is. The handguards have a gouge on the side you can't see. The grip is chipped at the trigger guard as seen in the pic. I ordered a set of unfinished handguards and a bakelite grip. I'll try my hand at finishing the handguards.

I have the pre-ban Hungarian version, the FEG SA-85M. Looks exactly the same - underfolder and everything.

I've only got one, an early AK-47/S underfolder imported by GLNIC in the late 1980's. The company was based in California, but owned by the People's Liberation Army of China. It's my understanding that these are basically pre-Norinco's. The teak grip and handguard actually match nicely. You can tell that they expended a lot of effort on their import markings!

I really don't care to own an AK now, but I've played with them off and on for several years. Lots of fun when the ammo is plentiful and free.

The ones with the red furniture are brand new Bulgarian Double Circle 10 Armory milled receiver AKs, manufactured 1993. I had 80 of them.

So I'm guessing this had to do something with the military since there are select fire versions and in varying degrees of used.

I figured as much seeing those 3rd pins!

Interestingly enough the one with "120" written on the stock seems to be a US import. Hard to read but on the side it does have what would normally be importers info and model # along with being a semi auto

Just the grip. The handguards are the standard Polish with the thin layered laminate. I wanted a grip to match and all of the wood AK grips have the thicker Russian laminate layers so I settled for the slightly different geography of a Polish RPK to get the thin layers.

Very nice! Not often encountered. Do you have the under folder as well?

Arik and greg, I think this box of 10, still in the packing grease, would fit nicely under a tree.

Were it not for politicians, that would be a nice, yet affordable Christmas present.

This is an evil thread. First, I give into my want for an under-folder. Yesterday, I bought a Russian made, RWC imported Saiga AK made at the Izhevsk Machinebuilding Plant. Supposedly the last of the Russian AK's allowed in after the U.S. trade sanctions against Russia went into effect. My favorite local small gun store offered me a fair price.

I really didn't want a "Kalashnikov" branded, made in South Florida AK.

Darn this thread...

Try sending the people at Blackheart International an e-mail.

[email protected]

They are the builders of my under-folder. I e-mailed them asking about ordering another set of Hungarian furniture, and they said it was available. That was a couple weeks ago. I didn't do it, so I deleted the e-mail.

Worth a try.

I took delivery of the Saiga imported by RWC.

Stock photo:

Today:

The furniture looks cool in the stock photo, but not so much to me in person. Even after removing the goofy vertical grip and polymer side rails from the handguards, it doesn't feel right. The adapted M4 style buffer tube and stock don't feel right. The grip would be comfortable except for the finger grooves. I'm changing all the furniture. I'll post a pic when I'm done.

Yes it would have.

I support my local small gun store. I actually wanted a DDI fixed stock that the AK Operators Union reviewed (YouTube). The owner of the small local gun store I support said "Why not just buy a Russian Saiga while you can get one?" I never thought of it. I thought they were all gone.

1. I now wanted a new manufacture AK-M, made in Russia, at the IZHMASH plant. By made in Russia, as much of it as the 922R compliance law allows.

2. U.S. trade sanctions against Russia block the import of the Russian made Saiga rifle. Whatever the details of the law are, the final allowable shipments are in.

The small LGS owner took me back into his desk, and we queried the distributors that give him good service. The last distributor had only 6 left, and only in the one configuration.

I bought one. My friend was with me. He was there to buy a Glock 43. He ended up buying one too.

One nice thing is that this isn't a conversion (?). The trigger group existed where it is now. It wasn't moved forward. That's the most I know. I'm new to AK's. I think it's because this one wasn't manufactured with a threaded barrel or has a muzzle device. Probably met some 922R compliance regulation.

A "tactical" AK was my intention too. The manufacturer of the furniture that came with my rifle is Command Arms International. Some of it marked made in Israel. I never heard of them before. Not only did it make the rifle look bulky, but it also doesn't feel good in the hand. I don't know how to put this into words without sounding completely irrational. Whatever polymer was used to make the furniture doesn't feel like polymer used on other firearms I own. It feels food container plasticky.

I'm replacing all the OEM furniture. I'll post a pic when it's done. While it's a bit disappointing not to have a threaded barrel to mount a muzzle device, I'm ok with it.

Here is my "tacticool" GP 1975. It is a lot more comfortable to shoot with the Rifle Dynamics stock adapter and the Ergo F93 stock.

Parts:

Guntec rail
Magpul RVG
Magpul MOE+ grip
Rifle Dynamics RDAK-M4 adapter
Ergo F93 Pro stock

Next up will be a new muzzle brake. I'm thinking either a Lantac Drakon or Spikes Dynacomp.

Here's a couple of mine:

This started life as a Yugo M85NP pistol. It has a faux suppressor pinned as a barrel extension (16.25 inches). Manticore Renegade hand guard, Primary Arms micro red-dot, CNC Warrior quick take-down pin and tubular folding stock. There's also a generic handgrip and a Tapco G2 trigger group installed. The magazine adapter (which came with the gun) takes AR-15 magazines; PMag 20 round is installed.

Next one is an Arsenal SLR-106. Muzzle brake is a CNC Warrior Compact, Galil style handguard from Tapco, Bushnell TRS-32 red-dot, Parabellum AKARS rail, CANIS M4 magazine adapter, Magpul AR grip, MFT Minimalist stock on a JMac adapter. After this picture was taken, I changed out the mount on the TRS-32 to a lower mount.

Both guns use the same magazines as my ARs. I decided to limit myself to just 5.56 and AR magazines to simplify my logistics. I'm definitely not an AK purist; I like to shoot and enjoy my guns.
