Well after much deliberation, I decided to trade one of my AR's for an AK a while back. I did what research I could in the short period of time I had and found that the rifle, a Romanian SAR 1, is actually a well respected AK variant so I bit the bullet.

The only thing I have noticed that I dont like is that the rear sight block is canted, there's a gap on one side where it should be flush with the top of the receiver. But, since I'm not a HUGE fan of AK sights as it is, I ordered some Tech Sights last night so I wont even need the stock rear sight.

This is my first AK, so go easy on me. It came with the Tapco folding stock shown, as well as the original wood furniture, and a set of green polymer furniture. Also included were 4 magazines, 200 rounds of 154 gr SP rounds, a case, and a scope mount.

AK owners sound off! I want to see what you have and what cool custom work you've all done.

I bought my first AK variant last year, a Zastava M92 pistol. It's a ton of fun to shoot, and actually fairly accurate with the red dot and a sling to stabilize it. Best of all, the price of 7.62x39 ammo! I recently purchased a couple of VZ2008's, but haven't gotten any pictures of them taken yet.

I traded an O/U 20 Ga for this Norinco. It was filthy. I asked they guy when was the last time he cleaned it, he replied I didnt think you need to clean AKs. Don't know how many thousands of rounds that have been thru it. First time out I was hitting 4 inch bath tiles at 100 yards. I was pleased.

I've also got a Century Milled Receiver that I need better pics of:

The SAR was a ban era AK. Its the predisessor to the WASR. That gap is fine. It doesn't have to be flush and doesn't effect anything. There is such a thing as excessive gap but yours is
fine.

AKs are my go to rifles.

You want AKs?
Here ya go. Last outing with AKs 2 months ago

It may just be the picture but are you sure that's a Norinco? Chinese AKs have hooded front sights, different handguards and thicker receivers....that Romanian/Polish folder wouldn't fit and the bolt carrier is polished. Also all Chinese were blued

Norinco MAK-90 Sporter. Made in China.

Originally it had the thumbhole stock I was told. The folder fits well up through the pistol grip screw into the trunnion. I've had it off several times. The front sight looks Dremeled so who knows. The finish is blued and the bolt and cover serial# matches the receiver but looks like it was stamped after manufacture, maybe when imported. IIRC this is a 1994 model.

Dremel! OK makes sense now! The rest I figured it was just the way the rifle appeared in the pic. It's weird that the owner swapped or sanded the handguards cause even on the post ban MAKs the handguards were still shiny looking. ...like Ditrina's

probably more folks on here have been shot or shot at with them than the ones that own them. just saying. lee

Very philosophical thought. Probably true.

I've owned 2 over the years but they did not grow on me.

The 2nd one was a 223 and I bought it about 7 years ago. I also bought a few thousand rounds of 5.56 with it. Sold the AK, kept the ammo and have a stash for my Colt AR match target Match.

so sweet ak 's pictured above.... heres mine not as nice as some of the above but fun to shoot

Hopefully this picture will push you over the edge:) NPAP DF awesome factory gun with a CHF barrel.

Thanks folks. This thread pushed me over the top. While I am not immediately buying an AK-47 or AK-M, I am going to buy one. It's inevitable. You know how I know? When I ordered a case of 5.56 to see me through the summer, I added a case of 7.62 x 39 Red Army Standard.

Buying the ammo before the rifle... what am I thinking... that's like buying an oil filter for a vehicle I don't own yet.
