Another Lubrication Thread

Have used everything from Kroil to g96,RoyalPurple,Amsoil,Mobil1,tree-in-one,Hoppes(yes at onebtime they made oil) and some not mentioned on wheelguns,auto-loaders,&T/C's as long as you give 'em regular attention have had no problems

I have seen sentiments that the old Type A ATF (the red stuff) works well with guns. But I have not used it. I have an unopened can of it somewhere in my garage.

As I have always said, using whatever gun product on a regular basis is way way better than using a specific highly rated product no matter how great it is only once in a while.

I too use gun oils, greases and solvents on many other items around the house - especially knives and garden tools. I find that the real task WD-40 shines at is removing tar, grease and road crud on your car and wheels. It also cleans garden tools well but I do not use it as a preservative or as a lubricant.

ATF was an often used lube on .50 cals. However, it was best to not admit to it or be caught using it above company level as the mantra "ATF is a hydraulic fluid not a lubricant" would usually be followed by threats of some sort of disciplinary action.
Whatever.
It kept the .50 mount on the outside of the humvee running just fine as it rolled around Iraq daily for a year.

All the new fads in the last 60 years are just boutique stuff. Go with the original.

At my current rate of cleaning and lubing my firearms, that 1 gallon would last me 213.33 years.:D

Firearm lubrication is not rocket science. But then..... maybe it is for some of us... SF VET

I have used Wilson Combat Lubricants for decades. Never have I found a reason to either change or even question my decision. Having said that, Mil-Comm got rave reviews from all (ALL) of my friends that came back from the Sandbox, so I bought some of that too. Good stuff!

This was a recipe I found years ago touted as a “lube” version of Ed’s Red. As I happened to have all of the above, and a clean 1 gal can, I mixed some up. Haven’t even made a dent in it, but it has worked well on everything I’ve slapped it on so far. I think the STP makes it stick well. YMMV…
