Knee surgery and Elmer Keith

When Hurricane Helene knocked out power for me for 11 days, I read "Hell I Was There" by Elmer Keith and it was fantastic! With no television, or anything else for that matter, to distract me, I would find myself daydreaming sometimes about the stories I had read. I watched "1923", one of the Yellowstone prequels, and some of it took place in Africa about the time Elmer was there, and I found the Dutton character kinda Keith like.

Another long past gunwriter whose books are still reasonable is Bob Hagel. There's also "Yours Truely, Harvey Donaldson".
If you like rifles, "the Bullets Flight" is online somewhere.
For an hour of deep thought google "The Houston Warehouse Experience"

Hey, good luck with the knee recovery! (Been there, done that, and will do it again, I think, next year.)

I think you can read Keith's Hell, I Was There for free on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. You need to sign up to access it, but you are not required to pay:

Hell, I was there! : Keith, Elmer, 1899- : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

The above source also has Robert Ruark's The Horn of the Hunter. I suspect I am not alone in thinking this Ruark's best work, and, at least among the books I have read, the best book ever on an African safari.

You also might enjoy audio books. Here are a bunch of free ones: LibriVox | free public domain audiobooks

There's also a bunch of free stuff to listen to on YouTube, BBC mysteries, etc.

Here's Karamojo Bell: https://youtu.be/bNjT1_Hek3w?si=ppa-ZMhDZrMIeKtx

Hemmingway's Green Hills of Africa: https://youtu.be/1bcSRjjpp7I?si=NT_t6-UATyxOgCCc

You might find listening easier than reading early on in your recovery.

"Hell I was there" by Keith

You did not ask for it but "Death in the Long Grass" by Peter Hathaway Capstick is a good read.
The Keith book you mentioned is great.
Anything by Capstick is excellent. In my opinion, Peter Capstick ( Where in the world did a last name like that come from? Probably British ) was one of the most entertaining and informative outdoor writers that ever lived. I have several of his books, and have read nearly every magazine article he ever wrote.
Even though he was in his mid-sixties he died way too early. Post surgery complications from heart surgery in Pretoria, SA in 1996. I was truly saddened when I read the news. If you can find it on the Internet, in my opinion possibly the best magazine article he wrote was for The American Hunter magazine in the 1990's I think, titled "Katwindi". It is a story about a newly-trained black Game Control Officer hired by the government a d assigned to work with Capstic that ended tragically.

I have several books by Keith, good info, but dry reading to me. Have not read any of Skelton's books, but did read his articles which I thought were good. Capstick is great, start with Death In The Long Grass and read through his works from there. I believe I have all of his books. Just my $0.02!

Go to Abe Books https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchEntry to get the best deals that I have found on the internet. I have purchased all my Capstick books here. Great reading!
