Knee surgery and Elmer Keith

When Hurricane Helene knocked out power for me for 11 days, I read "Hell I Was There" by Elmer Keith and it was fantastic! With no television, or anything else for that matter, to distract me, I would find myself daydreaming sometimes about the stories I had read. I watched "1923", one of the Yellowstone prequels, and some of it took place in Africa about the time Elmer was there, and I found the Dutton character kinda Keith like.

Another long past gunwriter whose books are still reasonable is Bob Hagel. There's also "Yours Truely, Harvey Donaldson".
If you like rifles, "the Bullets Flight" is online somewhere.
For an hour of deep thought google "The Houston Warehouse Experience"

Hey, good luck with the knee recovery! (Been there, done that, and will do it again, I think, next year.)

I think you can read Keith's Hell, I Was There for free on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. You need to sign up to access it, but you are not required to pay:

Hell, I was there! : Keith, Elmer, 1899- : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

The above source also has Robert Ruark's The Horn of the Hunter. I suspect I am not alone in thinking this Ruark's best work, and, at least among the books I have read, the best book ever on an African safari.

You also might enjoy audio books. Here are a bunch of free ones: LibriVox | free public domain audiobooks

There's also a bunch of free stuff to listen to on YouTube, BBC mysteries, etc.

Here's Karamojo Bell: https://youtu.be/bNjT1_Hek3w?si=ppa-ZMhDZrMIeKtx

You might find listening easier than reading early on in your recovery.
