Today is 2.20 and SIG P220 deserves a thread

SnidelyWhiplash, superb Stainless Elites you got there, thanks for sharing. If I may ask, did you change the factory Rosewood grips on the 220 and was that because of any functional reason?

Yes…I did change from the factory rosewood to factory polymer grips. They feel better to me.

I bought both pistols at a gun store where I used to live…an older fellow in a wheelchair sold both guns to them…he said both guns had no more than one magazine fired through them and they look as if that’s true. I was a good customer there and gave me a killer deal to buy both.

I've got a 220 that is marked "made in Germany". It is very accurate with 5.0 grains of 231 and 230 grain Laster Cast Round Nose bullets. The double action is short but very smooth. Also have a P226 9mm and P229 DAK .40. Both are very accurate as well.

I've owned, sold, and owned again several P220s over the years. I seem to keep coming back to them.

My current P220 Legion DA/SA is an outstanding pistol. Every time I think I want to try 10mms, I think about this pistol and its ability to handle any power level +P 45 loading and answer myself, "This one will do pretty much anything that the 10mm will, except at perhaps shorter ranges".

SIG really did a great job imo with the Legion P Series guns.

.357magger, I like your Legion. Think I'll try to find one to complement my 10 mm Legions and the .45 Carry Elite which is a bit of classic already and I'd rather abuse at range a newer one. It's the current model, green-gray Cerakote, previous issue from SIG, before the R2 optics cutout, right?

By the way, speaking of 10mm, it's super easy to shoot from the heavy, all steel P220, that is 44 oz empty. Might even feel more enjoyable than the .45 ACP +P (if there can be such a thing) from a Legion like yours that is a bit lighter at 30.4 oz if I read things right.

I have one of the old Conn. State Police P220's in .45 acp. It's a shooter, but I am more likely to have a P365 on my hip, especially in the summer.

I have an older German made P220 that I like a lot. Its the only SA/DA .45 I own. But then its the only one I need. ;)

Was that one of the ones being sold by the police supply store in Coatesville? Some good soul posted here about a load of CT State Police trade-ins and I practically blew out the door to get to the store and bought one for myself. The gun with the spare magazines included was a pretty good deal. And the gun I bought looked like it had hardly been used.

EDIT: I thought I had a test target for this gun, and I finally found it. I'd say the gun shot pretty well. Look at that group on the second target.

Got my 220 .45 Legion

This thread made me look for a Legion in .45 ACP. Personally, prefer the previous version, without cutout for optics. Found an older still new in box one and here it is. Absolutely perfect frame to slide fit and overall build, great trigger action that feels very much like the old DA/SA SIGs. Like it a lot.

Here’s my P220. Not much of a fan of the post 94 Sig aesthetics but really like the 80s to early 90s guns. Carried a P220, P229 and P232 during my career.

Like the non rail guns for esthetic reasons. That two tone is the bomb.

I carried a 9mm German P226 on duty till retirement. I was part of the transition team switching from model 65s to the Sigs.
My wife bought me a P239 in .357 for a retirement gun. I later picked up a P239 DAK 9mm. Still have the P232 also. The Hogue grips make all the difference in the way these guns feel - same on my 3953.
