Eureaka! I have found the Holy Grail.....1006

That's great you found a 1006, I bought mine in 1991 new and it's still in excellent shape with the box and all the goodies, I joined this group because I trying to find the value of these guns. I am now thinking I might want to sale this. It hurts my soul I would even consider this, but it's about time to do so. I am also a memeber of AR15.com (Member Taom) and will be placing an add on their site if I go through with this sale.

BlueDot, thanks for the tips. I am kind of resigned the idea that I might have to do some fitting.

I just love the look of wood grips, especially on a range toy / safe queen like this. I really don't forsee any "job" for this gun to fill, I just bought it cuz I wanted it. I hope the wood on these is not too dark, the light wood, stainless steel look is a great combination.

I have a few sets of the KSD and they do look nice. Being a bit oversized is not an issue for me. However ....

I've yet to come across a set that fit without some "rock & roll" pivoting on the S&W semi pistols. I'm pretty good with the Acraglass bedding compound, but there are alot of angles and crannies for the goo to wrap itself around, despite best efforts with break free. I went with aluminum foil and sparingly on the compound. Still was a bit of overfill, which made the grips solid but interfered with function. Carved/ground back the overfill and all was well.

Very laborious process though.
