I picked up a pair of Ruger P85 pistols yesterday.

These pistols were only made with stainless slides back in 1990. I paid 700 dollars for these two pistols. One is near new in about 97% condition and the other is probably 90%. The 90 per enter was clearly used. It has a couple of minor scratches on the polished flats of the sides, and has wear through the anodized finish on the frame rails.

These pistols both had a recall on them. The previous owner said that they had both gone back to the factory and had the free recall repairs.

What I shot today was the 90 percent gun. I tested out all ten mags that came with the guns. Four we're like new and the other six had significant finish wear, with one having some rust on the side of the mag body.

As you can see in the pics, the factory mag loaders are there, as well as the original boxes and manuals.

The gun;s groups weren't too tight. When I got home to clean it, I put some copper and lead removing gel solvent in the barrel and let it sit for an hour. The amount of blue and green that came out on the patches was significant. Maybe on my next range trip the groups will be smaller. I got about 3 inches at 40 to 5pm feet off a rest. Same results off hand. And, I was using bottom of the barrel ammo today.

The grips in the picture are Uncle Mike's hard rubber. The original grips were included. So for 700 bucks I got both pistols with original boxes, grips and manuals. And I got 10 OEM 15 round mags, loaders, and the guy drove them up from Klamath Falls to Eugene/Springfield Oregon to deliver them at my FFL.

As nobody makes leather holsters for these anymore, I will have to custom make a couple of holsters for these.

These pistols are really hand filling, like my Beretta's. These trigger reset is really long on these P85's as well. You almost have to let your finger off the trigger for it to reach the reset point. The return spring is strong. If one just relaxes their finger between pulls, and lets the trigger move forward while keeping contact with the face of the trigger, you can feel where the reset point is and pull again. Speed of follow up shots wasn't bad once I got used to it.

Strangely enough, I also recently bought two of these as well. I owned a P89 25 years or so ago, and I traded it off. I recently reminisced about having one back and I ended up buying two of them, (much like you). One is a P89 and the other is a P85 MKII...The MKII is the P85 with the recall fixed.

As you can see, I have custom walnut grips on these. They are made by Zib grips in Turkey and you can get them for about $35 SHIPPED from Turkey on Ebay... As you can see, I whited the one on the left out because I had those grips engraved with my name in the walnut for no extra fee. I also had them made with gold Ruger emblems to match the $10 brass screws I installed. The others on the other gun are also Zib's, but don't have my name in them, just the scroll work.

You can get holsters for these but you have to carefully and patiently troll Ebay auctions for them... That's where I got both of these holsters from...One is a brand new unused JayPee brand that was like new, I got for $30...The other is a level 2 Safariland I got for $25...Both on Ebay.

Those are some super nice grip panels - especially for that price.

They really are nice...I saw a YouTube video where Zib grips made a custom pair for a guy on there so he could advertise them for them. It had his business name in the scrollwork of the grip.

I took a chance and sent them a message through Ebay if they could customize with my name and they said "sure, no problem and no extra set-up cost"...,It was same price as the other set which was $33 and change shipping included from Turkey. I also had them redesign the Ruger emblem in gold with the lettering like you see instead of just the phoenix bird...Again no extra charge.

I just think it upscales the gun and makes it less "glock-ish" looking and more classic.

I ordered a set for my Taurus PT99 AFS too...It REALLY made it pop too and it is fine gun....I carried it last night on an event security job I have.

If I can't find a leather one at a good price, I will custom make one. I can make some really nice Galco clones. It just takes a lot of time when you are punching every hole for the stitching b\y hand.

The first semi auto I purchased was a new P85 in the early 90's for $350.
Worst gun I ever had.
It had problems from the beginning and went back to Ruger twice and they couldn't fix it.
Sold it to a friend that liked to tinker for $175 and have badmouthed Ruger every chance I get since then.
