Colt Detective special
Here is my 1964 Colt DS I got this last year and had to hunt for years to get a nice one like this and It shoots great I like the fact that its kinda small but hold 6 rds.

Like you I found a decent one a couple years ago and really like it.
Some but not all holsters built for the J fame Smith will fit that Colt quite nicely. Its trial and error, I found 3 of my 5 J holsters would fit the Colt very well, saved me a bit of money!

I kind of went backwards with the holster thing. I had Lobo make one for the Colt and find that the others fit it pretty well.
Including a 2 1/2" Charter Bulldog, which was a nice plus.
It's a lined enhanced pancake, so maybe the lining helps with the fit with others.
I really like my DS also. I like the weight, which is just a tad more than an alloy 5 shot.
That 6th round is nice to have.

My Cobra, purchased new as my first off-duty, is one of my favorites but does not get carried much anymore. It does get a few range trips and has one of the best out-of-the box triggers of any small .38. Also, I was issued one like the one in the picture in the early '70s when I was a working detective. It was used to successfully defend myself when arresting armed robbery suspects in 1974.

It will fit in most if not all holsters made for a Ruger SP101, and is what the SP101 should be a six shot gun.
Nice gun, glad you finally found what you wanted.

Nice gun and I've had two of them now. I'm not sure why but sold both of them to fund other guns like S&Ws. I do like the six rounds over a J frame's 5 but they were always a little tighter in the breast pocket in my Carhart jacket where I carried them.
I bought my first Detective Special mid 70s when first learning how to shoot. I tore the dirt up big time in front of my target the first time I shot it. I knew then these snubs would take some work getting used to and still working on that all these years later.

Hard to beat 'em. I especially like the pre-'66 guns with the long grip frame. Congrats. Always nice to fill a "need"!

One of my great regrets is that lack of funds forced me to pass up a very nice DS2 in a pawn shop some years ago.
I'd love to have one like yours.

Great guns. I have a couple of them and the one that I shoot was made in 1965 and is a great shooter. The other is a 3rd edition that is LNIB. There is just something about snubbies that makes me like them.

Nice Colt! I ran into a 98% Cobra a few weeks ago, by luck. Couldn't just leave it sit there now, could I? It sits next to my DS2 and a Cobra with a lot of miles on her.

I carry a pretty beat up but still tight 74 Cobra most of the time. A 68 Dick Special that's a little nicer sits in the safe. Sorry S&W guys, I own a very nice 15-3 2" and an equally as nice 36-9 and I always walk out of the house with the Cobra.

Verity is the spice of life. I can't fault you and if I had a DS it would get carried a good bit.

Sold my Detective Special last Sept. It was my father's and I inherited it a few years ago. It was a mint late 70's model. I fired the only 50 rounds it ever had loaded, then sold it to fund the purchase of a new 442, a new SD9VE, and pay for the CPL class and license when I got my carry permit. It sounded worth it at the time, but I have regretted it ever since. Glad I did keep my model 36-1 J Frame. Love the 3 inch barrel for shooting.

The first gun I ever fired was a 3rd Model Detective Special. Someday I will find one to add to the Nostalgia Corner of my collection/accumulation.

S&W44Spl, that is a beautiful DS. I have two, a pre-shroud and a post shroud. Also a pre and post Shroud Cobra and a pre and post shroud Agent. They all get rotated through my EDC. I like the extra round, but also like to carry S&W I and J frames. Rotating gives a little variety to life. Yours is to original long frame, and is a real looker. I would never feel under gunned with that in my pocket or on my belt. Carried one for awhile before I retired from law enforcement. Great handgun. Best to you.

Nice example of a late 60s gun. The hole in the side of the hammer is rare and only appeared for a short time around 1967. Does not really increase the value much but it does add a slight dimention of rarity.
Of course, the Tyler T-grips are a nice addition on any good carry revolver.

Big fan of the D frames from Colt, mine are a 1919 PPS and a 1966 Cobra.

One of my favorites, 1933 DS with factory pearls and a ratty old box. I felt like I was giving up my right hanging down appendage
when I bought this for $400.
