Kahr K9

Yup, I did it.... Just placed my order with Bud's gun shop for a new all stainless Kahr K9 w/night sights. My current EDC is my M&P Shield however I find myself carrying my Kahr CW40 more & more often... I just like how smooth of a shooter it is. The smooth DAO trigger is awesome and I find myself coming on target faster with the dot the I sights.. I keep coming back to the DAO trigger used on all Kahr pistols, it is one of the smoothest triggers with the cleanest break I've ever shot...
The Shield is a great CC pistol however I don't own a all metal pistol... And I choose the Kahr K9 9mm.. The k9 features a match grade Lothar Walther polygonal barrel, 416 stainless steel slide & frame & tritium 3 dot night sights on my model. Ships with 2-7 rnd mags.

Weren't you just debating getting a smaller 9mm to replace your BG380?

Nice handgun . Hard not to like kahr pistols .

My first was a used cw9 , low cost and unknown to me , that quickly led me to buy'n a cm9 for pocket carry at work . Then really messed up and bought a tp40 when I retired as my full time cc. Might trade a ria 1911 I just don't shoot for a large 45 kahr that I would carry .

Bad sickness .

YES! But that was before I discovered this blog by "Shooting the bull"... I'm still keeping my .380 as it has its purposes on some carry situations. To be honest, half the time I carry is with my .380. But not because of caliber, but for it's small size.

I wanted to add;

I have carried my Kahr CW40 off & on since owning it. To be painfully honest, it is more comfortable in my alien gear cloak tuck 2 IWB holster than the Shield, especially while sitting & since the kahr is nearly identical in size to the shield except the grip on the kahr is 1/2" longer, I can draw it out from under cover faster. And finally, once you get used to the DAO trigger on the Kahr, it is a joy to shoot. I feel very comfortable in public walking around in condition 2 as the striker is at half cock until you pull the trigger, pulling the trigger fully cocks the piece, moves the striker block and then you have the bang. There is no safety to mess with. It is like a revolver somewhat.

The K9 is a slim single stack 9mm that weighs in at 23oz. Might make for a decent OWB winter carry. But for my first all metal pistol, I think it's a great choice! I still love & adore my M&P Shield's...In fact I IDPA with my Shield 9

I was just wondering what changed your mind.

Those little .380's are nice for being convenient and I won't argue about a good DAO trigger. The K9 is a good size and weight for both shooting and carry.

It's nice to see you are using a carry gun for IDPA as well! (Not that there's to much wrong with gaming...just seems kind of funny.) I'm still working up the courage to run my 642 in a non bug match, although I've run my K snub .38 and compact .45 carry guns in several matches.

There is a new CCP (conceal carry pistol) class for IDPA along with a BUG class. The shield would be under CCP. I think it's vital for anyone who has a CC permit, (CHL in Texas) to continue to get additional training/practice & be up to date with the law. I practice & IDPA with my carry guns, wearing my normal everyday clothes, with the pistol under concealment.
(Not in the AG cloak tuck 2 holster because drawing it out would violate the 180° rule... Safety first!)

Changed my mind with what? the CW40 over the shield? Safety. With the Shield, I keep the safety on because for one, its a striker fired pistol & I want to eliminate the possibility of a accidental discharge. Sure, someone will read this & comment their opinions, that is fine, I like hearing other perspectives. With the Kahr, it is a partially cocked striker fired pistol, the cycling of the slide partially cocks the striker and the pulling of the trigger finishes cocking the mechanism and releases the striker to make the gun go bang. There is no safety switch. Besides, that Kahr DAO trigger is smooooth.

Don't get me wrong, the Shield is an excellent CCW pistol. I believe you can't go wrong with either, that it comes down to personal preference.

I saw my first Kahr K9 (the only model they made then) at a gunshow in 1996. Never heard of the company but I was so impressed with the quality, I bought it. Carried it daily until they introduced the P9 and I got a great deal on a demo. Now I carry the P9 more but will still carry that solid all steel K9 at times. You are going to love yours: reliable, concealable, and powerful, it's my #1 concealed carry pistol.

Good luck with your K9. I have a K40 that's been my primary off-duty carry weapon for the past 4-5 years. Slim, excellent ergonomics and the best out of the box DA trigger I've ever pulled.

That Kahr trigger is what keeps me coming back to my CW40. It is now become my main EDC. (my M&P bodyguard .380 is still with me) But that trigger cocking DAO mechanism Kahr uses is schweet & is a safe way to carry with one in the pipe. I've heard that the Gen 2 Kahrs are coming out with an improved trigger where the reset is about halfway instead of nearly all the way forward.

I have fired 650 rounds thru my CW40. Last 250 rounds were me experimenting with defense loads. I tested Hornady custom XTP's in 155 gr. Federal 180 gr. HST's, 135 gr. Hydra shoks, Winchester PDX1 165 gr. & Hornady American Gunner 180 gr. XTP's. The CW40 fed them no problem but I thought the pistol handled the best with the 135 gr. hydra shoks... I havent tried other weight hydra shoks yet. I saw a old LEO training video on the 40s&w round & got the impression that 155 gr. was the best all around weight for .40s&w

I cant wait to start trying out different 9mm for my K9, I know in the shield I've got better overal results in accuracy & "feel" using 124 gr. fmj's & 147 winchester train & defend... I imagine the K9 with its heavier weight may like the 147 gr loads too.

Congratulations! You'll love the K9. I handled a K9 in a gun shop once and thought it felt great and fit my hand perfectly; the trigger was superb. But I was only window shopping at the time. A year later I went looking for a K9 or K40 and couldn't find any new ones in my area. Then I spotted a used P9 that I eventually dated back to the early 2000s before Kahr altered the slide. I snapped it up, but it turns out it had an extraction issue. So I called Kahr and they said they'd repair it for free if I sent it in. I had them install night sights on it while it was back at the factory and when I got it back I discovered that they had even polished the feed ramp. It has functioned flawlessly and served me well ever since.

I made the trade and swapped a 3 years old rai basic 1911 for a ct45 kahr and after running a few mags thru it I made the better deal. I wished I had bought a 45 a few years back. It is a very soft shooting pistol even with 185gr +P loads . After I get a few hundred rounds thru it I start carry'n it once in a while .
