While cruising through a few LGS in Loganville yesterday I looked at this .357 revolver. 2 1/8" fluted, non ported barrel with tritium night sights (which were dead), and all the features of the product code 178044. The gun had a great DAO trigger pull and was in excellent condition, except for the dead tritium capsules. I have never seen this model before and I am wondering what it's current value is.

There are two on cabela's now for 750.
The one I have I payed 600. 5 years ago

I picked up my 640 Pro Series about seven years ago from a pawn shop. They wanted $649 on the tag. However, I offered $500 cash, and I then took it home. It's one of my favorite J-frames and I replaced the dead front site with a red Hi-Viz type front sight and left the rear sights as is. I really love the trigger and my paper target at 10 yards shows it!

I picked up one about five years ago also for $600. I loved that little magnum j-frame. Then my daughter decided she loved it better. What could I say; it's hers now.

Sorry for the thread hijack but would you mind sharing what front sight you used? I'm really just curious what the dovetail cut matches. M&P?

Yes, if I remember correctly, the front sight dovetail cut on the 640 pro series has the same specs as many S&W/M&P auto-loaders.

Here is the story. Not long after I got my 640 pro series I took it to a local gunsmith to see about replacing the existing dead night sights. He told me I could install a fiber optic front sight because it was a standard dovetail cut from S&W and he had some in house for a really good price! And I could blackout the rear sights or paint them if I wanted. Ok, cool. Waaaay cheaper than replacing the night sights with new.

The first red fiber optic sight he installed was off concerning elevation. Windage was fine. The second dovetail fiber optic sight he installed was dead on POA/POI. And the width was nice and tight, which was good too. My total cost was around $40.

I shoot this J-Frame very well with nice small groups with this sight setup. I can pickup the fiber optic quickly and I'm very happy with it.
