Did a "Mint Colt" store just open near you? That thing is gorgeous.

I have had only luck to find this unfired Colt at a gun dealer in the near of my workspace (He comes from an older gentleman who has dissolved his collection).

This beautiful Colt Official Police, .38 Special, 4", I bought last July. The production year was 1963.

The gun dealer informed me, that this revolver is unfired.

Congratulation and I hope you enjoy it. I bought one just like yours in the 60s and gave it to my son about 5 yrs. ago. Mine really had a smooth action. Yours and mine are the only two I have seen with the round butt. Larry

I just discovered these and thus, the collection begins. I bought this somewhat ratty nickel plated one on GB for $250 shipped, and have learned the workings of the innards on it. I have since picked up and nice round-butt version, not a Marshal, but an OP, and an Army Special that was re-barreled with a new OP 4" barrel. Again, right around $200. One can purchase very nice examples of this fine, Python-quality revolver, for $500-700. Man, the quality is indeed there and they made a ton of them, so parts are readily available.
Good find on yours, VERY nice revolver indeed! H

I have seen only one Marshal and NO round butt OP's. You have a seemingly quite rare gun.

That's a good looking revolver. I got my 1968 back in 1982. Just two weeks ago I found this seller on EBAY. He has boxes from the 1930's forward. It will set you back $150, but is well worth it. I bought the wrong box. It was too early. When he found out, he sent me the correct 1960's box with all the original paperwork thrown in. I haven't taken a picture of the box yet, but this is the gun. The only reason I bought it way back then was because you just never saw Colts out for sale in minty condition.

Round Butt OP

For this revolver I paid CHF 550.00.

Sir, it's very unusual to find a revolver this old that hasn't been fired. VERY. Not saying yours isn't one of them, but these were typical police revolvers and to find one that is truly unfired is very scarce.
That said, look closely at your buttstocks, and those of others (Gunbroker is a good place to look at many examples). It appears that you have one of the round-butt versions like mine. You can read much more about this version on the Colt Forum website, simple search the term "round butt official police" and Marshal. The Marshal was simply a round-butt version of the official police revolver. They are rare, especially in the 2" snub versions. The discussion consensus on the Colt Forum is that the leftover frames built for the Marshal were assembled into Official Police round-butts
Your revolver for $550 was a bargain. Hang onto that one. As I've said, decent shooter versions are plentiful and can be had for half of that price. Get one of those to shoot!
Here's a great source of info:

Nice gun. FYI - If that "seller" is from Sparta, TN, I'm pretty sure the box and paperwork are reproductions.
