Colt, like S&W never used gutta percha for grip material so your comments are mis - informed. Colt and S&W only used hard rubber. Different plant. Much better grips.

Writing too quickly from memory on a cell phone, never a good idea. Still, the early rubber grips are prone to cracking and chipping - I've replaced many a set.
