Ruger Speed Six
I've owned a 6" Security Six since 85, it was my first revolver and has always had a special place in my heart.
I've been keeping my eye out for a Speed Six with the 2 3/4" barrel for a long time, most are too pricey and the one deal I did see I let slip past me.
Today at the gun show I found this 2 3/4" blued Speed Six in .38 a 160-, and the price was right. 95%+ no high point or edge wear and barely a turn line.
The show was packed, tupperware & black rifles flying off the shelves. The background check system was backed up so I wound up hanging out at their table. Seems they'd rather hangout with an older guy adding a classic to his collection than a novice looking for their first plastic gun, hope I didn't hurt business.
The guys working the counter all thanked me for buying it, saying if it had survived the show they would have had to fight over who got to buy it. Even the guy pulling security at the door asked to handle it a bit.
I'm happy !

I've had a stainless Speed Six since about 1982, and many other guns have come and gone, but she will stay with me. One of my favorites.
I feel that any gun named after Bently's most succesful racing car of all time must be worth keeping. You understand, don't you.

I have a ruger police service six 357/ 2 3/4" barrel in stainless in '76. Great revolver. The ruger six series revolvers are rare as hens teeth. I caught my LGS a few years back putting a security six 6" barrel like new for $199. Couldn't pass that up.
I seen a police service six in 357 go to $750 recently.
These have become very collectible.

Congrats on your find. That is a beauty. The grips have a very nice grain also. Looks just about unfired. I have two Speeds in the safe. A couple of my favorites.

I have a Stainless Speed-Six with a 2 3/4, a blue Service-Six with a 4" tube, and another blue Speed-Six with a 4" barrel.
I'm a big fan of the -Six's. Wonderful guns.

Don't tell us what you paid for it, God forbid, we might be able to keep up with current pricing better as a result.

The cat has been out of the bag for awhile on the Ruger Six Series revolvers. The prices for a nice Speed snub are approaching those of the Smiths. I'd say if the OP got it for anything less than $500-$550 area he got a good deal. Some will pay more for the dedicated .38 Special chambering, some will want to payless. My .38 Special was just about unfired, dated to 1977 with the no bill board barrel and round blast chamber(which will usually add to price). I happily paid $575. YMMV

I go a 4" Service Six about 3 years ago for $379. Gun looked brand new. Ruger was selling factory target grips with medallions 2 years ago for 10 bucks each. Brand new in packaging. They found them in some warehouse. They completely transform the look of the gun. I should have bought 10 of those grips and I could have tripled my money on them.
The Six was everything the K frame .357's should have been. Designed from the ground up to shoot .357. No worries about flat spot on forcing cone. And complete takedown is a breeze.

A very nice snag there! I have a twin to yours and I hate to say it but, I shoot the Speed Six better than my 19-4 snubby. Enjoy that one!

If someone is looking for a Ruger , I know a shop that has two 4" blued ones on the shelf, both pretty nice, and one with the adjustable sights, in 4". Shop has no website, but PM me and I'll give you their phone #. I think he can take pictures and email them.

I probably could have done that, yes....paid $425, which came with the goodyears and Ruger's magna-esque grips for it.

I bought my first handgun after I got out of the USN in 1977. I really wanted a S&W M19/66 but they were pretty scarce and when one showed up at a local shop, they were selling for inflated prices that were out of the range for a night janitor at the WMCA...My first part-time job while going to community college on GI Bill and yes, I get the USN and YMCA connection (ha ha)...I found a new stainless four inch Security Six for $175. I SETTLED for the Ruger. It seemed to resemble a DA Blackhawk. I thought it looked rather klunky. A year later, I started on a local PD. I was issued a M10HB but was allowed to carry my Six after qualifying with it and loaded with issued ammo. After experiences in snow and downpours and jumping a fence and landing in an open cesspool, etc, I came to appreciate the modular design that was easily disassembled to dry and clean...I used that revolver for a house gun, hunting companion, woods roaming/camping gun, range and load testing gun...I still have it and its a tight and accurate as the day I got it...I have a couple M19s and a 66 and I prize them but my Six is my old and dear friend. I hope to get a clean Speed Six someday but my four inch Security Six will do...You fell into a great deal on that one!
