Default Grabbed a 'sort of' S&W....

Swore I'd back off and slow down on the needless acquisition of any more hardware, until a friend recently teased me with this Uberti Schofield in .45 Colt. Supposedly a repro of the S&W Model 3, 2nd model, with the exception that the originals were in the shorter .45 S&W instead of .45 Colt.

Box, papers, elk stag grips on it, as well as the original cartouche-marked walnut grips in the box.
Deep, polished blue with color-case hammer, trigger guard, latch, etc.
Even being a 7" barrel, it sure points nicely.

I'm not into CAS, and can't see how this is practical for much, but it is just different than your everyday SA and obviously well made.
Have not shot it yet, but should be fun.

A repro of a "rare" that you can shoot with a clear conscience. Makes perfect sense. Enjoy!

One of the best parts of the growth of cowboy action shooting was the wave of replica guns that everyone could shoot and enjoy without fear of damaging a valuable antique. Good for you - you'll enjoy that replicated piece of history!

Those are exceptional elk grips on it. I wouldn't have passed that up either.

There aren't really many guns I want anymore, but one of those is on the list.

That's a nice one for sure.

This is the 5 inch 45 Colt version, I have not shot it yet. I bought a nickel 5 inch recently but have not photographed it yet.

In 1993, I bought a S&W First Model Schofield, serial number 584, in an old local gunshop that had it marked as a Number 3. The metal had been reblued and a coat of laquer had been added to the stocks, but the numbers matched or were correct and the gun was very tight. The case colored parts still were. Although I had never held a Schofield in my hands, I was pretty sure what it really was. I even had the brass to talk them down another 20%.

I couldn't find any .45 Schofield, .45 Colt Short, .45 S&W Gov't or .45 U.S. cartridges or brass. I bought a brand new box of 50 Federal .45 Colt cases and chucked the cheap Lee cartridge case trimmer into my electric drill and laboriously trimmed them down to .45 Schofield length. I found a box of soft, swaged Speer 230 grain round nose bullets. I had some Pyrodex, a non-corrosive, black powder substitute and read up a bunch. I then assembled what, as near as I could figure, rounds that fairly well matched up with the 100 year old Schofield.

I took my then 120 year old Schofield, a 20 year old Colt SAA, and the ersatz Schofield ammo to the range.

The Schofield was possibly a $5,000-$10,000 gun. I worried my figurin' and calcalatin' might not be sound, and I didn't want to damage my old pride, so I chickened out and shot the cobbled ammo through the modern Colt. I got about 775 fps with the 230 grain roundnoses, along with a nice, big, glorious cloud of smoke.

Yep, I'd like to find me one of the Uberti repros or one of the Smith & Wesson Schofields but when I find them, I'm usually broke.

Yes, GC they are. Standard, factory-level .45 Colt ammo is recommended. Doubt the design is up to warm-to-hot .45 Colt handload possibilities.
