I have had this CZ 527 Carbine for several years now, caliber 7.62 X 39, it once wore a scope while I experimented with cast lead bullets. The rifle showed it was capable of 1.5" groups at 100 yards with tailored hand loads, and shot carefully from a bench.

Lately I have been carrying and using it on my property as a "Utility Rifle", no scope, carried on my ATV in a scabbard in case I need a rifle, loaded with Wolf 124 grain soft point ammo in a steel case. Today I shot 10 rounds at a coffee can placed at 75 yards, shot from the seated position:

I counted nine holes in the can from ten rounds fired, good enough for "Utility Rifle" work....

If you don't have a CZ 527 carbine, you need to get one. It is one of the few rifles available with iron sights, no scope needed. Short and handy with a 16" barrel, detachable five round magazine for fast reloads, and at 5.8 pounds it is a breeze to carry in the field. A real joy to shoot. Also available in .223 caliber if that suits you.

Fell in love with CZ rifles when I got my first a 452 FS/mannilicher in .22magnum in about 2011.... which has become my favorite "walk in Penn's Woods" rifle.........

I've also got an 527 American and an FS 527 both in .223/5.56 the FS wears a little Leupold 1-4x20 scope and will shoot 1-1.5 inch groups at 100 all day long...... another great field/utility rifle.

FYI........... Skinner finally is offering a receiver mount heavy duty rear peep sight for the CZ 527..... would be perfect for that carbine.

I saw my first such rifle just this week. I thought the same thing about its handiness. My one concern is its carrying ability with the extended magazine. I spent years wandering the mountains with a rifle in my hands. I have some beautiful antique rifles that are good for casual hunting only because they do not carry well. If a rifle is to be carried just a short time a day or rides mainly in a 4 wheeled ride then anything will do. When I handled this little carbine I was impressed but also wondered how it carried as the rifle I examine did not have a magazine in it. I lamented that it would be a perfect woods wandering rifle if it had a fixed box magazine. But then again I have carried the same rifle for years and see no need for another. However mine is a full sized rifle with superb balance and comfortable to carry though long and heavy. So many people hunt for the perfect hunting rifle and there are scads of them around. However few consider the perfect "adventure rifle" as I call it. This rifle should be light, short, handy, easy to carry, have only iron sights and of sufficient power to take a deer at 200 yards and keep your posterior out of trouble. This rifle should be within arms reach every time you leave for remote areas. The rifle after 10 years should have many dents, dings, rubs, and scars from a life of great times.

I like the detachable 5rd magazine...... small and light I carry 2 extra in a cell phone case clipped to the sling or my belt.... easy to grab and go..

90% of the time I carry slung/muzzle down on my left shoulder.

The only problem I have with it is that "detachable five round magazine for fast reloads".

I don't really see where I need a "fast reload" on a bolt action rifle. If I haven't got it in five, it's probably got me.

The gun came with one. I bought a spare - it was 25 dollars, I believe. That was in 2001. In 2008 I took it with me to Georgia, to let my daughter shoot it. Found out, when I got there, that neither magazine had made the trip. Quick call to CZ-USA got me one. For forty dollars.

I now have, I believe, eight of 'em. The two originals, the one from Georgia and five more I got from a guy here on the board. But it would be better, in my opinion, if it had a built in 5-rounder, like a Mauser or Springfield, and stripper clip guides to take SKS strippers.

Couple of years back, someone on here had a Karma - this "Ruger-marked" buttstock pouch. Holds two magazines nicely.

As a multi-purpose "utility rifle" having the option of a "faster" reload isn't a bad option.......

I like the grab and go w/extra mags in a phone case that's clipped to the sling when it's in the safe......

like the stripper clip idea.........

I have the 527 carbine in both .223 and 7.62x39. I have killed quite a few deer, pigs, yotes, rabbits, foxes etc. with both rifles.
Mine is very accurate with several loads, both American and Russian.

You can get or modify the trigger guard and mags to hold 3 rounds.

A recent 7.62x39 victim.

I have been a CZ fan for over twenty years. The third from the top is gone, replaced it with a HS Precision stock Varmint .223.

The CZ 527 American .222 I gave my brother for his birthday in 2012.

I have never handled a CZ 527, but I do agree with the 7.62x39 as a Utility Cartridge. My utility rifle is a early 90's Chinese SKS with a Hi-Viz front and Peep rear sights, I had the bayonet lug ground off and the blue touched up. It has the Original Stock & Canvas Sling, I carry it in my Jeep with a Bandoleer of Strippers loaded with a mix of HP and Ball. When In carry it on the ATV or UTV, I carry it chamber dry with a full magazine of Lead-Free Corbon and then carry 2 strippers of the same in a belt pouch. The SKS works well for my purposes, but I may track down a CZ 527 and compare them.

CZ 527

I want one of these great rifles. Will probably get one in 7.62X39. CZ certainly has a great reputation. The only thing CZ that I have now is this beautiful 7mm-08 with a CZ action. My brother built this custom deer rifle for me about eight years ago.
