I'm afraid I'm just too much of a 1911 type fellow. It is obviously very high quality. It is a great shooter. There are just a couple of issues I have. I just can't (in an admittedly limited trial period) get used to the DA/SA trigger. I owned and carried and shot Model 39s in the past, but that was long past. I know it sounds silly, but I have a heck of a time getting the mags loaded. I have old, arthritic fingers, and that 10th round is just about impossible for me. I have a tool on the way that should help with that.

I think the main problem is that I just love 1911s so much. When I first handled the Sig, I thought I just had to have it. I have shot about 100 rounds through it, and so far, the love is just not there. I'm going to wait till the loading tool gets here and see if removing the frustration of loading mags helps some. If not, I will probably put it on a local Trader Forum and see what kind of 1911s or even S&W revolvers I can attract.

I guess at my age I should know it's better to stick with stuff you know you love. So much for trying to move into the 21st Century.

Fat Sigs are not for everybody, that's for sure. You might handle a Sig P220 or a Sig 1911, there are several versions of each to choose from.

I like my five Sigs; I recently bought a .357 Sig barrel and magazine for my Sig P239 .40 S&W.

I had a 220 and found it too big. I sold it to also concentrate on my 1911's. I have 3 Sig 9's and thoroughly enjoy them. Load the mag as far as you can and let it set for a bit, maybe it will get easier to load.

Its 1970s with a double stack.

I was looking at one but between the G21 and HK USP 45, Sig P220 I really have no reason to spend that kind of money on another 45

We've all done it. A beauty comes along and whispers her story to us, and the next thing you know we have a perfectly good gun we neither need or want. As a matter of fact, I still have quite a few of them. :)

Sig makes a nice gun, but it does sound like its a little out of your wheelhouse. Maybe you just need a little more trigger time with it before you really know what way you want to go.

I like the idea of the P227, but that fat grip just doesn't seem worth the couple of extra rounds. I'm a big fan of the P226, great gun. I've got a P226 (DA/SA) and a X Five (S/A only) and shoot them both very well. For .45ACP Sigs, I really like my P220, great feel, great shooter. Has a very nice single action trigger pull, and is very accurate.

I'm a 1911 guy, too, but also really like the P220. I use my P220 as a house gun, I like that it has the DA/SA trigger, hammer, and decocker. That's a good set up, and you can always thumb the hammer for the single action first shot, or keep it DA for added safe handling, depending on the situation and urgency. I can (and do) pop a 10 round mag in the P220, and I've got 11 rounds of .45ACP goodness on tap.

That said, again, if it were me, I'd give the 227 a chance before sending it down the road...

I love my P938 and my wife's P238, but haven't quite been sold on their standard lines. The DA first pull to SA does nothing for me.

However.... I'm giving the P226 Elite SAO some serious thought. That or the Legion series SAO P226.

ColbyBruce, I owned a Hi-Power some years back. I liked it, and could shoot it fairly well. However, I don't have any 9mm pistols, and don't want to add another caliber.

The 227 isn't really too big for my hands. It is a bulky thing, but that isn't really the issue. It's just a general lack of enthusiasm on my part.

I do intend to keep shooting it some before any rash decisions. Both times I've had it out, it has been sort of blustery and cool, which meant fooling with the mags was a real trial. Man, those things have some powerful springs! Maybe a bright, pleasant, 70 degree spring day, and an easier time loading mags, will change my attitude.

I could see the Sig as a dedicated house gun, maybe with a good light on the rail, and with one of the 14 round magazines. I don't believe I could ever see it as a carry gun. We will see.

I don't care to add another caliber either, but would like to try a Glock 38 .45 GAP. Currently my handgun calibers are .22 LR, .22 mag, .32 a.c.p., .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R mag, 9mm, .357 Sig, .38 special, .357 mag, .40 S&W, 10mm, .41 mag, .44 mag, .45 Colt, .45 a.c.p. This is a lot to keep up with.

I have a customer who offered me a Star PD .45 a.c.p. for $400.00 back around Christmas. If you want to try that thing, I can get you his contact info.

SRT trigger is nice if you can try it on another Sig.
Shortens the reset in single action. Still first shot DA though.

I've got a 220, 229, and 228. Like them all but they just sit in the safe.

I've got a SP2022 Sig Pro in .40S&W that I really like though. It is in a lock box under my desk at work.

For fighting my wife and I have S&W revolvers and Glocks. I have been using a S&W MP9 compact for winter carry this year but for all practical purposes my Glock G19 would suit me as well. I got the MP in a trade and decided to try it.

I've been considering the purchase of a P227 as my primary home defense pistol, and have been reading the SIG forums. Before you spring for a 14 round P227 magazine, check out the SIG Talk forum, and its P227 14 round magazine update thread. Apparently there have been lots of FTF problems with these mags. SIG has been working to fix them, but so far, no luck. The 10 rounders are fine, though.

Redlevel

I have steadily been losing fine motor control of my hands, along with strength. The MAGLULA loader has been a Godsend.

The Maglula Uplula is a very versatile loading tool. The double stack can load single stack if held centered.

There's a nice 45 from CZ that's double action but can be carried cocked and locked.

CZ-USA CZ 97 B - CZ-USA

redlevel, have you ever considered a Glock? LOL!!!!

Seriously, my favorite LGS has some S&W M&P .45 a.c.p. trade-ins at a reasonable price. They also have a few .40 S&W Sig P250c pistols. The Sig would be a decent gun for work, same trigger pull and no safety, ten round capacity. You might not shoot this caliber, but .40 is plentiful and cheap enough.

I have a XL BA vest if you want to go that route.

If you ordered the uplula, you'll be very happy I think. You will wonder how you got along without it.

Nothing wrong with being a dedicated 1911 guy either. I own other guns sigs berettas etc. If I had bought a 1911 first, I doubt I'd own any of the others semiautos.

Wow, you guys must have some blowouts! I pity the Sheriff's Dep't...

Our pre nup states that any irreconcilable difference resulting in a termination of marriage would be decided by a duel, winner takes all.

Seriously though. For concealed carry away from the home she carries a 442, I carry a 637. Used the same type of speed strip, same ammo. If **** hits the fan and we are together she can use my gun and be just as proficient as with hers.
Quick access safes in the house. In bedroom a Glock 19 with Insight M3 Light and spare mags are G17 mags. In the back of the house if God forbid they are ever needed and we have to go that way in a quick access safe back there lies a Glock 17 with Insight M3 Light and spare mags are G17 mags. Again, keep everything same manual of arms, as close to the same as I could for the two of us.

I feel your pain Red.
My younger son carries a P220 Compact. I'd shot it several times and have always admired Sigs. But wasn't real keen on the short grip.
A couple of years later I ran across a used German full size P220 at a good price. Bought, a couple of spare mags, a holster and put in a SRT kit. Great gun, I liked it. I carried it for a couple of weeks.
Then I went back to my 1911.
