Default H&K USP Compact .40

I have a part time job doing firearms quals for folks that use the HK USP Compact in .40 caliber. I've always liked this gun.

Back in the mid 90s, the FBI put out a proposal for a .40 caliber handgun, and I was in a group of firearms instructors brought in from various field offices to shoot the candidates and give an opinion. I rated the USP Compact at the top, but Glock eventually won the contract with the 22 and 23.

I've been impressed with the performance of the gun on the line, so I used the "I need it for work, honey" excuse to justify finally getting one. It helped that a local big box had a few LE trade-ins with a box and spare mag for $599. The one below had the V2 left handed safety and was only $499 so I got it. I may swap it out to the LEM version, or give it to my left handed kid. I may just leave it as is.

It's in good shape.

I like the mag release on these.

Any other fans?

I've got the same pistol, in 9mm V1 SA/DA. It's a keeper!

Had one, a duplicate of my issue pistol. Left handed safety and all. I was a HK armorer, converted it to right hand and sold it to a fellow officer. Nice gun but I don't miss it. Just never warmed up to it as a personal weapon.

I love all USPs - full sizes, Tacticals, Elites, Compacts, etc. Even as someone who generally holds his nose up at 40S&W, I don't mind the caliber at all if it's in a USP of some flavor. They handle it really well and naturally.

Any other fans? No.....

I did have a USP 40 both in full size and compact but I much prefer the P2000.

Along with the P2000 I have a USP45 compact, a USP 45 full size two tone and two USP 9 full size

45 compact

P2000

Sorry no pictures of the others but my legs just took 2 USP 45 full size and 2 compacts. Aaarrrggvg... So hard to resist.

My son and I hit the range today - 200 rounds of mixed 180 and 165 grain loads, both flatpoint FMJ and JHP. As I expected it was 100% reliable.

One thing I had read about that proved to be true, at least at 15 yards - the rounds hit directly where the sights are, not slightly above as I'm used to with a six o'clock hold. If you hold at six, they hit at six.

My son is getting his Colorado carry permit - I suspect I may be losing custody of this one soon.

The USP is one of the best gun designs I've ever seen. I have the 9mm version and it's a marvel.

They are designed to use a center hold which is how a defensive gun should be set. The M&Ps are this way also.

I've upgraded mine to the LEM. It is a great modification and you will like it. I would use mine as my main gun, but I shoot the 1911 better.

My one USP9FS is LEM and so is the P2000 in 40. The P2000 has a better grip but my accuracy isn't what it is with other 40s&w handguns. Meanwhile the USP grip isn't as good but accuracy is much better

Yes big fan of the USP. I recently picked up a full size USP 40 and like it a lot. Would definitely recommend

I traded a P245 (which I never warmed up to) to a guy for an HK 45c that has V1 action...I had to have the DA massaged by a certified HK/Glock armorer because it was too gritty for my liking. The single action was perfect..The best part was I traded a $600 gun that I didn't like very much for a $900 gun straight up that I love.......I did add a Talon grip.......since I can't find a Shorty 45 that I can afford...this will have to suffice.........................................................................................
